#1: Golfers Grace?

Posted on 2005-11-07 22:30:22 by Del

Preparing for a golf dinner/prizegiving, and have been asked to say a grace.
Anyone know of an appropriate Golfing grace?

I recall this being asked before, quite some time ago (years?). Try
'googling' the newsgroup.

Not quite right but you could use the Golfers prayer.

Dear Lord

Give me the power to sink a putt
So big, that even I
When telling of it afterwards
Will never need to lie.

Amen

How about '...God give us grace, God give us power, to finish this round
in half an hour....'!

A round at the 19th should not take that long!

Why not do the obvious?

Remember what you are doing - Giving thanks for the meal (and perhaps
remembering how fortunate we are to have food, when so much of the world is
starving)

Remember who you are speaking to, the great God and Creator of the entire
universe, who has so graciously given us not only our food, but also so many
blessings, including this wonderful game of golf, which we often just take
for granted.

Do this from your heart and you cant go wrong.

Regards

Trixie

No doubt this is the same "God" who has given terrorists the belief
that their "God" blesses them and takes them into into his heaven
when they blow themselves into eternity, at the same time taking
other unfortunates with them.

Religions of every creed have a great deal to answer for!

>
Del,
All the suggestions so far are prayers to a god, and are presumptuous enough
to assume not only that everyone present believes in a god but that they
also believe in their God.
In my golf society we have Christians, Jews, Buddists, Muslims and a fair
sprinkling of Atheists.
When I was elected Captain, being Atheist I could not bring myself to utter
prayers to god I do not believe exists yet I had to signal the start of
dinners somehow.
I contacted the Toastmasters' Guild seeking a non-religious form of "Grace".
Their suggestion, with a little adaption of my own, was:
"Let us be grateful for the meal we are about to enjoy together and ever
mindful of those less fortunate than ourselves."
Those who wanted to treat it as a prayer to their Gods could do so.

HTH,
Malcolm
When you speak to God - its called prayer: when God speaks to you - its
called schizophrenia
