#1: Graham picked Vargas?

Posted on 2006-07-17 05:48:23 by TIMOTHY DONATELLI

I respect Graham as one of the best boxing writers in the world. However, I
was *very* surprised to see him pick Vargas in the re-match.

I had little doubt Mosley would win (I put $1,000 on him). I didn't
anticipate Mosley stopping Vargas and demolishing him though.

IMO the only chance Fernando Vargas had was to land a huge shot and stop
Mosley. People here on RSB want to think that Vargas was shot and Mosley
doesn't have much left either. For those who think that way, how wrong you
are.

Mosley beats = Judah, Collazo, Tszyu, Hatton, Margarito, Spinks, Cotto,
Karmazin, Ouma, and at least wins 4 rounds against p4p #1 Floyd Mayweather
Jr.

Somebody posted that Mayweather Jr. would *easily* beat Mosley. I want to
know what crack pipe they are hitting. You guys know I'm a big Mayweather
Jr. fan. IMO Mayweather would outpoint Mosley, but it will be close. If
Judah won 4 rounds against Floyd, trust me, Mosley will be in the fight all
night long. Why? IMO Mosley is a more complete fighter than Jose Luis
Castillo (who gave Floyd fits). Mosley is faster and quicker than Castillo.
You think Castillo could have beat Oscar De La Hoya twice? Not even close.
Oscar would dominate Castillo. Then look at what the speed of Judah did in
confusing Mayweather early in their fight. Guess what people? Mosley is just
as fast and more *accurate* than Judah. Also, Mosley has a better chin than
Judah.

"Sugar Shane" Mosley, even at 34, still displayed awesome handspeed,
superior footwork, and his trademark bodyshots to dominate Vargas. Also,
don't forget Fernando Vargas is a natural Jr. Middleweight, while Mosley
really should be a Jr. Welterweight.

Keep underestimating Mosley, and he'll keep proving haters wrong. I would
love to see him fight and beat the winner of Quartey- Forrest. I have no
doubt he will beat "The Viper" this time around!

I have Shane Mosley my #10 p4p fighter because I can only name 9 in the
sport better right now. You guys can say Vargas was shot and faded all you
want, but when he's only a (8-5) underdog and respected writers like Graham
actually pick him to win, you just don't want to admit how truly great
Mosley really is. I'd even pick Mosley over Julio Cesar Chavez or Felix
Trinidad at welterweight. Winky Wright schooled Trinidad, however, Wright
had a MUCH tougher time against Mosley.

Bottom line question: What were the factors involved that had Mosely
dispatch Vargas so easily?
