#1: he le Procrastinator predicts winner of Vargas vs Mosely

Posted on 2006-07-16 21:13:52 by DCI

I had to go over the results of my earlier analysis of the records,
data and news articles three times before I can put my prediction in
print. Before that point there was something missing and I couldn't
put my finger on it. Then suddenly it dawned on me what it was. You
see I had been looking at the records - read history - of the two
fighters, Fernando Vargas and Shane Mosely.

So what was it that I was missing? It was a thing called psychological
homeostasis, another way of saying "got it all together." Of the two
camps, Mosely is the more together fighter. He has little or no
psychological baggage and is able to focus completely on his mission,
to make immediate adjustments during an encounter and capitalize on
his opponents mistakes, this being so true of the matter involving
Vargas. Vargas on the other hand, while always attempting to present a
cold hearted warrior image, is not quite that together and is more
tuned into projecting an image i9n an attempt to effect his opponent.
Sort of like a bully. This image thing is reflected in his followers
and the entourage that is more like "hangers on" and emotional
sycophants that appears to be more about goading their man into a
street brawl via machismo thinking: acting tough gets the best
results.

The fact that Shane Mosely and his father, Jack Mosely, are getting
back together adds even more strength to Mosely's preparation, a very
thorough, focussed physical and mental preparation. Jack and Shane are
never that far apart on any matter involving family and the boxing
business. There was never any animus between the two men, only a
matter of short term priorities. Once that was clear, the future bout
with Vargas II was sealed right there in the gym. Have no doubts,
Shane Mosely is mentally tough. And he is still man enough to keep
learning about the Sweet Science despite being 34 years of age (35 in
September). So what did Shane learn before he enters the ring against
Vargas? Be physically prepared for war, be psychologically together
and aware of anything happening in the ring, and hold the focus while
using superior hand speed, footwork and reaction time. but utmost, he
will be patient until he sees an opening.

Additionally, I could not help but notice that Vargas is somewhat out
of touch while training down to fight weight. This means that he has
more training to do for the fight because he varies too much
condition-wise in and out of ring conditioning. He may too far from
good condition before the fight than is needed to be in top condition.
Mosely is always closer to fight condition before the period of actual
fight preparation. This means he is going to be working on tuning his
fight tools and not worrying about the condition of his body. Smart
fighters understand the need for out-of-ring condition: don't
dissipate!!

Bringing all this material to the point of prediction simply means
that Vargas will be beat before the first bell because Mosely is a
consummate professional who is enjoying the fruits of his labor and
discipline and experience.

From the first bell, Mosely will dominate Vargas with speed, boxing
angles, and setting up his punches. After several rounds, Vargas will
be going through the motions while losing every round due to his
inability to quickly adapt to what Mosely will bring to him. Vargas
will continually be looking for the right hand shots that did him in
during their first encounter. I'll watch for a sweet left hook
instead!

It'll only take one clean shot somewhere around the middle of the 5th
or 6th round and Mosely will officially have the victory.

My prediction: Mosely by a KO or TKO in the 6th round. That's my
prediction and I'm sticking with it.

To all the RSB regulars: Enjoy!!!

Why didnt you just ask me old boy?
The missing step - the one thing that is there in ALL your predictions is an
actual viewing of said fight!

Now go sit down and watch the replay if you can before making your usual
airtight "prediction".

Glad I could be of help.
