Round 6
Vargas, exhorted by his trainger to win rounds, comes out looking to
fire, but Mosley is too quick, and lands his left jab at will. Mosley
and Vargas clinch, then are separated. Mosley scores with his left
jab. Vargas' left jab is blocked. Mosley is cobra-quick, staring and
firing his left. Vargas counters with a left. Mosley puts Vargas flat
on his back with a devastating left in the final minute of the round.
Action resumes, Mosley goes in to finish it. The fight is stopped.

Mosley is a top p4p fighter and on the verge of legendary status.

I LOVE Shane but let's be honest here, tongiht was mostly about what
vargas doesn't have left rather than Mosley turning back the clock and
I hope this doesn't fool Shane into thinking suddenly it's the year
2000 again.

Mosley's balance just isn't what it used to be and against a
counter-puncher with a good left cross Mosley would have found himself
in trouble because he keeps freezing after throing a round house right.

Does anybody actually think Mosley hits as hard as Campas or Quartey or
Tito? Vargas' recuperative powers are simply like his reflexes no what
they once were, he looked exactly like he did Vs DLH only worse in
every department. This Varags and the one Vs DLH is NOT the one that
fought Quartey, Wright, Campas, Thompson, Marquez, etc.

I'm happy for Shane but this was not a fight, this was a humiliation of
a shot figther, I would have gonne over hugged the guy and begged him
to retire because i would have felt terrible had I humiliated him like
Mosley did tonight.

I know in my heart that if I was in there with Vargas tonight there is
no way he would have made it to the 7th round, the guy was WIDE open
for a left uppercut time after time and he doesn't have any waist or
head movement (he disp the knees though), once you bomb on him he is
kind enough to stand perfectly still and try to abdorb.

I was happy because I picked Mosley by stoppage, that's about it.
Vargas looked absolutely horrible from the opening bell here. I mean,
Mayorga put up more of a fight against De La Hoya than Vargas did in
this bout, and I'd pick Ike Quartey at this point to KO this version of
Fernando Vargas.

Mosley/Mayweather is interesting because...well, you know, now that I
think about it, Mayweather would win with ease. Mosley's too far gone
in years and his speed is simply not there to compete with Mayweather.
Mayweather isn't that much smaller either. He may even be taller.
Mosley would be interesting against, I dunno, Cotto. Or Carlos
Quintana. Kermit Cintron, too.

Shane should fight Viper if Viver gets by Quartey, if not, maybe he

This is obviously not the same Vargas that gave Tito and DLH their
toughtest fights.
But I really don't think that a prime Vargas beats Tito, DLH or Mosley
anyway. He was good, really good but not in the same league as those
three.

Based on Shane's relatively low activity rate in recent fights, no
(although it sounds like he was more active in this fight than recent
ones, I didn't see it)

To put it another way:

Shane would've got his ass kicked by Mayweather a lot worse than Judah
did.

Floyd pitches a shutout against Mosely and probably knocks him out.

>
> or....
>
> Should he have no part of Forrest as Forrest has his number period?

Well, the problem is that Vernon ain't getting by Quartey. Did you see
the last fight with Vernon Forrest when he fought Elco Garcia? Awful
showing. Garcia almost had the fight even in the 12th, but a series of
mistakes by the ref lead to Garcia turning for a neutral corner and
Forrest running up from behind and KOing him through the ropes.Quartey,
on the other hand, has fought legitimate opponents (Verno Phillips,
Carlos Bojorquez) and looked very competent and skillful. He laid a
horrible beating on Bojorquez, and while Phillps gave him some tough
issues, Verno Phillips is a very very good fighter who's had a great
run the last 5 years and dealt out two tough bouts to Kassim Ouma.

> I could see Shane getting mauled by someone like Judah, so I hope he
> doesn't bite off too much..

Judah would relax and stop fighting and that would be his downfall with
Judah. It happens with everyone else, after all. Mayweather is talented
enough and has the size to really beat up on Mosley pretty throughly.

Vargas-DLH was far from one-sided. The ending left no question as to who

with Vargas possilby ahead on the cards.

Vargas-Trinidad also was not one-sided from the beginning.

I can recall a very one-sided beginning, with Vargas damn near out early
after a huge knockdown. But he did come back, and at times looked
threatenting, but then things go pretty one-sided towards the end. That was
a damaging fight for Vargas, perhaps getting up from that bad
knockdown -like Mosley did against Forrest- was not a good career move.

Vargas has been finished at the top for a while. Nothing he had shown in
several years justified the perception people had of him as a still viable
top fighter.

Mosley beat a shot Vargas? Please. Give Mosley his due credit.

I'm a huge Mayweather Jr. fan, but for those of you that think Mosley will
get dominated, think again!

Mosley beat Oscar (twice). Even though he lost to Winky Wright twice, you
think Mayweather (a natural Jr. Welterweight), could beat Wright? I don't
think so.

Fact is, if Mosley would go back down to welterweight, guys like Hatton and
Cotto would probably lose to "Sugar" Shane.

Mosley was impressive last night, period!

> Vargas-DLH was far from one-sided. The ending left no question as to who
> the winner was, but up until about the 8th round, it was very, very close,
> with Vargas possilby ahead on the cards.
>
> Vargas-Trinidad also was not one-sided from the beginning.

> In one of your lists : possibly. You'll probably have him as the best
> P4P bantamweight ever. Any others? Not a chance. Great fighter but
> certainly not "legendary".

When it's all said and done, Mosley will be a legend. He was a COMPLETE
lightweight and holds two quality wins over Oscar De La Hoya.

Mosley is without question one of the best athletes in the sport. He fought
Winky Wright tough twice. You think Hatton or Tszyu could do that? Not a
chance.

If he fights Floyd Mayweather Jr., people will be shocked how close a fight
it will be.

Not to mention the Wright fight and his fight with Oscar. Vargas was a

Tito blew him out of there and was absolutely dominant never losing control

the most hard core boxing fans ever even noticed him at 135. Hard to be

> >
> > Vargas-Trinidad also was not one-sided from the beginning.
>
> I can recall a very one-sided beginning, with Vargas damn near out early
> after a huge knockdown. But he did come back, and at times looked
> threatenting, but then things go pretty one-sided towards the end.

Maybe he was already damaged goods before coming in to this fight. lol
: )
To be fair, Vargas took control of the middle rounds until Tito punched
him in the balls.

>That was
> a damaging fight for Vargas, perhaps getting up from that bad
> knockdown -like Mosley did against Forrest- was not a good career move.

Why is everyone so surprised that he lost to DLH and later to Mosley?
DLH proved to be every bit as good as Tito if not more, so it was no
surprise that he beat Vargas too in another tough fight. And didn't
Mosley beat DLH twice in two close fights? Mosley has more hanspeed
than Tito and is slightly faster than Oscar, so why is everyone
surprised that he beat Vargas twice?

I don't believe this "damanged goods" thing.
The problem with Vargas is that he uses his face as his defense, and
still does so. I'll admit that the Vargas that showed tonight is a
shell of his former self, but like I said before, even in his best days
he still loses to DLH, Mosley and Trinidad.

Also losing twice to Forrest tarnishes any "legend" status.

What? Legends don't lose? Is that what your saying?

Mosley EARNED respect by moving up and battling p4p great Winky Wright.

Trinidaed ir Oscar didn't have the power Mosley did to stop Vargas EARLIER
than both of them did.

Wright easily outboxed Trinidad, but couldn't do the same against Mosley.
Mnay consider Trinidad and Oscar to be legends, so why not Mosley? <grin>

>
> Surely not last night..

Shane Mosley is without question a top 15 p4p fighter today. He stopped
Vargas earlier than anybody else. After watching Winky Wright totally
humiliate Felix Trinidad, and Winky couldn't do that against Mosley, now
could he? <grin>

Mosley will beat = Hatton, Collazo, Tszyu, or Judah with little trouble.

Vargas wasn't that shot. If he was that shot, why did Graham and other
experts actually pick Vargas to win?

Mosley is an excellent boxer, and if he stayed at welterweight he would be
pretty much unstoppable. He beats Hatton and gives Mayweather a run for his
