#1: Sturm - Castillejo (Spoiler)

Posted on 2006-07-15 23:12:25 by Florian Kalle

Sturm down in the 2nd, winning each round after that.

In the 10th round, Castillejo caught Sturm with a right. Sturm couldn't
defend himself anymore and is taken out by the ref while standing. Probably
a broken jawbone.

New WBA-Middleweight-Champ: Javier Castillejo.

Wow!

That's boxing's singular beauty. If a guy's losing badly and keeps his
hands up and continues to punch he's still in it. Also, the end can
come absolutely out of the blue. Can't say either if those things about
any other sport.

The question is.....who is next? Winky perhaps? The winner of
Abraham-Miranda? I could see Arum throwing some serious cash Castillejo's
way to make an optional defense against Pavlik. Dont wanna see a Taylor
fight and he should stay away from stylistic nightmare Soliman.

I think Winky should be the choice since Wink is looking for an in between
fight before Calzaghe, and Castillejo is just earning gravy at this point in
his career, could be a nice retirement present from Wright.

Just watch the World Cup(football, soccer) and you see it all the time and
that's what makes these sports the best...

I like soccer more than most Americans (especially at that level) but
but the football equivalent would be like Italy beating France 5-0 with
8 minutes left when suddenly France scores the goal-to-end-all-goals
and the game ends right there with a French win. Only boxing allows
that (in wrestling, even the pin takes a few seconds).

Castillejo is perfect to use in recycling a former champion and making
him look like a legitimate threat/world titlist. Vargas needs to be
rebuilt, and there's the built in "Castillejo goes for revenge" theme.
Same with Mayorga. Wright could go after it, and really, its not a
horrible battle of former 154 lb fighters, though Wright should walk
through him easily.

Abraham/Miranda's winner should be fighting Taylor. No question in my
mind.

Castillejo was really in shape for this one. he had stated in El Mundo
Deportivo that for the last 4 years he'd been bruned out somewhat
("quemado").

In any case, he'd prepared for this very thoroughly, and for some reason was
very excited and motivated. He obviously showed up in better shape than he
had been in a while - as of late at 154 he'd looked a little less than
solid, but surprisingly he looked shredded at 160lbs. . And Castillejo is
very tough, and has always been quite crafty. And Sturm blatantly
under-estimated him, stating he would knock Castillejo out within 2 rounds
(which no one else has done or been close to doing, one wonders what Sturm
was smoking). The shock must have been a big one for Sturm, let's see if he
recivers from this one..

Hey, I couldnt agree with you more, but I dont like what DiBella is doing
with Taylor, it seems as if he is trying to avoid anything tough. The ONLY
reason they fought Wright was because it was mandated and had they gave up a
belt they wouldve looked like cowards. Can you please tell me what is the
point of Taylor fighting Mora or Soliman before guys like Abraham or
Miranda? I do understand that Taylor would probably kill Castillejo.

Taylor fought Hopkins twice and Winky Wright in his last 3 fights. How many
guys fight 3 in a row opponents of that quality? Nuff said.

Taylor is the real deal. His jab is awesome and he's still getting better.
That's scary! <grin>
