Thanks for the link. Awesome. I am really looking forward to El Guapo getting
back in the ring again. Should be a great card. They have done some start
moves by getting Goldberg involved for the WWE market and Steven Quadros to get
people who know him from Pride to buy in. I can definitely see this
organisation giving UFC a run for their money.

I really dont like Goldberg as a commentator (if I got that right?).
He always comes across as trying too hard to be 'in character' with
some cheesy tough guy voice on.

I dunno. I suppose I should give him the chance. He may be ok.. but I
have a feeling he's there for the celeb appeal.

The fights sound good though.

I won't even try to tackle this one... But I'm curious if there is a plan
by DirecTV to show this event. I may just upgrade from my 8 year old tuner
so I can purchase a PPV at home again. :)

I see another problem with MMA. I don't see one true champion emerging as
there are too many variables in the sport. One man could beat most opponents
then lose to someone that has not won much because of a style match up.

In Boxing the best Boxer will win. In MMA much depends on style match up
and perhaps a little luck in finding one's self in a position to apply a
submission to a opponent that made a mistake. One can make a mistake in
Boxing and still have a chance to recover, one mistake in a submission sport
and it is over.

> opponents then lose to someone that has not won much because of a style
> match up.
>
> In Boxing the best Boxer will win.

In boxing the best fighter will ALWAYS win ? There's never a question of
styles? Is that so ? Lets see......

Foreman destroyed Fraser twice, knocking him out in 2 and 5 rounds. Frasers
style of coming straight at a fighter bobbing and weaving while looking to
throw a huge left hook made him an absolute sitting duck for a guy with
Foremans power. Norton's peak-a-boo style of defence didn't serve him any
better. Foreman did the hot knife through butter routine in 2 rounds with
Ken.
But Ali beat Foreman - knocked him out in 8. George had no answer for the
rope a dope, nor for Ali's sharp tongue and fast hands. But Fraser beat Ali.
With his never back down style he pressured Ali all night and landed huge
left hooks. Of Course Ali also beat Fraser - twice. And Norton beat Ali. In
fact Norton beat Ali three times, even if the judges gave Ali two of the
decisions. Norton was always the one fighter who gave Ali fits. He was
strong, athletic and smart - and Ali never figured out Norton's D. Norton
had the one style Ali could never over come. . Norton even broke Ali's jaw
in the first fight.

So
Ali knocked out Foreman
Foreman KO'd Fraser
Fraser beat Ali
Foreman KO'd Norton
Norton beat Ali
To sum it up - you are wrong. Boxing is no different than any other sport.
Talent will usually dictate a winner but when talent is equal styles will
come into play. I could give you a dozen examples. Every real boxing fan
knew Mike Tyson would get destroyed if he ever met a big man with a strong
left jab who could keep Tyson at bay until he found a target for his big
right hand. Few thought it was Buster Douglas of course - but there's
another example of style dictating a fight.

In MMA much depends on style match up

All of these people were top fighters.

Yes, they were. With different styles. That's why Ali was able to beat
Foreman but had trouble with Norton while Foreman destroyed Norton.

Now if

That's completely irrelevant. Do you ever think of anything stupid you don't

Do you ever think people will remember or

Again, that has nothing to do with your asinine statement that in boxing the
styles of different fighters has no outcome on the fight. But to answer you
anyway - some people already do. Don't you read this group ? Mention the
first few UFC's and see what sort of a response you get. People will post

>>>
>>> Thanks for the link. Awesome. I am really looking forward to El Guapo
>>> getting back in the ring again. Should be a great card.
>>
>> a great card ? Seriously - you think this is a great card ? If the UFC
>> was putting this show would you still call it great ?
>
> Yep. It has Bas and Quentin Jackson in it. What's not to like?
>
> Fraser

Bas is fighting Kimo. He's fresh off of getting knocked out by Ken
Shamrock. We all agree Shamrock is washed up - but he sure Kicked Kimo's
ass. Bas hand selected Kimo for his return fight. I wonder why? Mind you
Kimo beat some guy called Marcus " Beyond Normal " Royster ( record 0-1-0 )
and lost to Ikahisu " the Punk " Minowa" who's 33 - 24 - 8 since the
Shamrock fight. Bottom line ? A guy who used to be great but is now 41
years old and hasn't fought in 6 years is fighting a guy who was knocked
cold by a has been is their main event. I love Bas and hope he comes back
strong, but this isn't a main event. It's a worse fight than the much
maligned Tito/Ken fiasco. And Jackson is fighting Matt Lindland, a decent
enough fighter but not a guy who was ever going to get higher than half way
up a UFC fight card. And those are the two big fights. The undercard
features an ex TUF fighter, a guy who has lost his last 4 fights, - and
Jose Landi-Jons who has lost 7 of his last 9 fights is scheduled to fight
but they still haven't signed anyone to fight him and it's one week until
the fight ? Amateurish, to say the least. There's several decent fighters on
the card and a couple of the fights might turn out to be competitive, It may
just be an entertaining evening, and if I could I would order it on ppv. But
if the UFC put out a fight card this thin I'd be laughing at them - and I
think you would too. It's a piss poor card, with two decent fighters on it -
and they're not even fighting each other.

> Probably not as this thing is x-posted to several groups. I read some of

You are talking MMA. I didn't even see the cross posting. I apologise for
that. I should have asked do you read alt.ufc.

>
> Question; is there a betting line issued on MMA fights? Do you care to

You are wrong again. There is a betting line on UFC. There's a betting line
on everything. Here is a link to such a site.

Correcting your mistakes is getting tedious. I'm going to have to start
charging you some sort tutoring fee. If you wanted you could have bet your
entire allowance on Shamrock to win. Actually if you email them they still
may take your money. But please explain what any of this has to do with
your original statement that styles dictate the outcome in MMA but not in
boxing - or have you given up and agreed you were wrong about that ?

I can't find a line on the upcoming WFA fight at the Forum. I have gone to
many sports betting sights and none list MMA.

This ties in with my statement that MMA fights are so unpredictable that a
betting line can not be set. I am not suggesting that MMA is WWE, but I
can't find a place that will let me place a bet on the upcoming WFA event.

I agree. Not the best fighters in the world. They have one pride fighter who
by all accounts is on his way down. But, and this is a big but, the thought of
not having to sit through 1/2 an hour of crap between the fights UFC style makes
it that much more appealing. And watching Bas fight is always entertaining.
Who wants to see him fight Fedor and get fucked up in 10 seconds? That is why
Kimo is a good opponent. Matt Lindland is waaay underestimated in MMA. So he
should be a good fight with Jackson. The rest are pretty much no name fighters.
But sometimes no names make the best fights. You would think that Silva
Arlovski would of been a great fight. But you never can tell.

Don't forget about Ryoto Machida. He dominated and knocked out Rich
Franklin. There is a rumour that he was under a really bad contract and
couldn't fight much in the past few years. Nonetheless he's impressed any
time he's fought.

It is a pretty new organisation. No ranking that I know of. Ringside seats for
$350 is a bargain. You are looking over a grand for ringside seats at a UFC.
And I'd hate to think how much for Pride ringside seats.

> It is a pretty new organisation. No ranking that I know of. Ringside
> seats for $350 is a bargain. You are looking over a grand for ringside
> seats at a UFC. And I'd hate to think how much for Pride ringside seats.

If a fight is held in a Casino or sponsored by a Casino high roller are
given the best seats as comps. It would be virtually imposable to buy one of
those seats.
