#1: Scarlets rape the valleys

Posted on 2006-06-02 16:55:12 by ukhamlet

The Llanelli team's ranks have been strengthened by the recruitment of
highly rated young full-back Morgan Stoddart.

The 21-year-old, who can also cover centre and fly-half, joins from
Pontypridd RFC.

This not fucking on. Pontypridd are supposed to be in Cardiff's region.

Martyn, when I read it morning I felt there would be a thread on this.
There are times when Welsh rugby simply beggars belief, and its well
meaning fans follow in the beleif beggaring. I would rather that a
'highly rated' player is getting consistent rugby at the highest level
than languishing on the Cardiff Blues beacuse he's from Pontypridd and
he face doesn't fit at the Arms Park.

It is unfotunate that there is no draft or contractual responsiblity
for premiership players to represent there region, but then again
regionalism is piss poor concept anyway. We keep trying to follow the
southern hemisphere in our structure and we're simply not wired that
way, we are a club based union and if the WRU had not signed the
loyalty agreements then this could of been resolved by natural
selection, demotion for five season with no promotion to form an elite
and bugger the like of Ebbw Vale and Cearphilly, we made a mistake with
regionalism and the Celtic Warriors and the Dragon are only logical
outcome from that, rugby is not football and would be all the worse for
it, to run any sports club as a business is wroing as the bottom line
becomes more important than anything else as the Pasty man is finding
out with the cuts in funding.

If you were in that situation what would you do go to CAP where they
break players spirit and turn silk purses in the proverbial sow ear or
to Stradey where there is (was post Gareth jenkins, who knows?) a
structure for developing young players e.g Dafydd Jones, Matthew
Watkins, Dwayne Peel etc. Just look at the improvements that Adam Jones
has made since switching to Stradey.

I say this a Blues and CRFC fan of 20 years, but as we have seen over
the last 4-5 seasons Cardiff and the Blues are going nowhere, fouth
place in Celtic League does not season make and if thats the best we
can do with the quality we've got on the books than we deserve no young
players, for example the best 7 in Welsh Rugby this year is Robin
Sowden Taylor, the most average, unfortunatly has been your namesake.
MW comes back of the Lions sabbatical and he's straight in, RST to
bench, and a dip in from ensues

As I say it sad but facts are facts the Blues are an average team with
shit hot players and a coach is vascillating on wether he is going to
carry on (yes, I hear its still not resolved).

i am so disillusioned with Welsh Rugby, I am more excited about the
watching Engalnd and Pakistan in the cricket these days

There rant over.. sorry but I had enough at the moment.

If you didn't see the wry smile behind that post, then you have moved
your allegiance to Llanelli, because you MUST be truly one-eyed. ;-)

you may well be right, but it still fucks me off that we still make the
same mistakes season after and no one seems to call anyone to account
for it

Exactly.
Feeder clubs need have allegiance to regions and not in a free-for-all. If
Cardiff officially rejects the guy then perhaps he should be available for
the other regions but only if he is rejected. I know that a player in the
Ospreys region went to another region then I would be seriously miffed.
