#1: Checking Your Club Lies

Posted on 2006-06-05 20:02:38 by Martyn

I bought a set of MacGregor 1025CM's in February, for a snip, £150 brand
new, as I was wanting to try a set of forged irons (normally play Ping I3
blades). I played with the clubs during the winter and discussed with my
club pro getting them bent upright as all the divots were toe deep.
Eventually got round to it last week and my pro fitted the 6 iron for me,
which we tried on Saturday. The fitting, 2 degree's up was spot so he went
to work on the rest of the set. On picking the clubs up, he showed me the
club stats:

3 & 4 iron spot on, no change needed but all the lie's on the other irons
were out - the 8 iron was the same lie as the 3 iron! Used them on Sunday
in a medal and it was lovely, everything was straight or with a slight
draw - it was a shame I had a driver, 3 wood and rescue club in the bag!
Saw the pro after the round and he asked how I got on, but he wouldn't bend
the driver for me!

The lesson is, despite being new clubs, it's worth while getting your clubs
lofts and lie's checked as it could be causing you problems!
