#1: And why shouldn't she compete in the JD?

Posted on 2006-07-13 21:17:45 by 3putt

It's all about recognition and sponsorships. Would you turn down a chance
to play in a PGA event on a sponsor's exemption? Would you even turn down
playing in the weekly pro-AM if someone else were paying your "donation"?
Seems like even the pros are in awe of her. Or are you disappointed that
she will be wearing long pants instead of that itty bitty skirtpant thingy?

If she was allowed to play every weekend in LPGA events, she might
choose to play in fewer PGA events. I don't know. As it is, she
wants competition, and has this option.

Kinda like those times she shot 68 in the Sony, or the 70 at Deere Run a

Safe to say that today was what some folks refer to in life as an "off day".

She doesn't want to play in more LPGA events. She wants to play only in
the majors and in the special events like the World Match Championships
where all the strongest players in the world will show up.

Playing in normal weekly events would have a disastrous effect on her
world ranking.

> I don't know. As it is, she wants
> competition, and has this option.

True. However, I read in a local paper today that she hasn't won any
event of any kind, anywhere, since she was 13 years old. If that's true,
then it seems to me that she would find all the competition she can handle
anywhere she plays -- LPGA, PGA, Nationwide, Asian, wherever.

I imagine the Nationwide tour especially would *love* to have her playing
in their events. Every sponsor on that tour would give their first-born
to have her accept an exemption. She's not interested, because it's not
competition she's really after, IMHO. There is competition everywhere if
she wants it. I think she what she wants is a special place in history.

I think she'll get it, but I don't think it will come on the PGA tour. I
think she might become the youngest golfer to win a major. She's already
among the top ten women players in the world (again, in my opinion) at 16,
and she's got something like 3 more years to do it in. I think she has a
good shot at it.

On the other hand, if Pressel (who is only 17 months older than Wie) wins
one first, Michelle will suddenly be under tremendous pressure to hurry
and get it done before she passes the age at which Morgan did it.
Michelle has had better overall results than Morgan, so the smart money is
on her, but Morgan is no slouch. These are good and interesting times for
the LPGA.

Oh, and Paula Creamer still has time to beat both of them at the "Youngest
Player Ever to..." game.

That's not necessarily true. for it to be true you have to show that
they would have offered the exemption to someone else if she declined.
Can you do that? But even if it is, anyone that would replace her
doens't deserve it either. Anyone that "deserves it" gets in by some
other means.

> and now is making as ass out of herself yet
> again. what is this now? 0 for 31? i predict she will probably off

They haven't appeared to be nearly as bad as the average tennis

She did play one Nationwide event, 2003 Albertson's Boise, 78-76, MC by 12

strokes.

What absolute BS. Anyone who deserved to there qualified. Sponsor's
exemptions, by definition, go to those not worthy enough to have qualified.

There are two ways to get into a tournament.

1. Earn your way into a regular spot by your golf achievements.
2. Earn your way into a sponsor's exemption by making the sponsor
happy.

If the sponsor chooses to not use #2, that does not open up another
slot.

That being the case, you must be saying that she took the spot away
from someone who was better able to generate hype for the sponsor.
Who, pray tell, might that be?

There has been some discussion in the Avalanche newsgroup about
goalkeeper José Théodore who has been seen with Paris Hilton. After
the Avalanche hired his old coach someone suggested they hire Paris.
Someone else suggested that it probably isn't a good idea to hire a
goalie coach who has let so many in her five hole.

Did you qualify? No. So you weren't deserving.
So by definition (my definition anyway) Michelle could not possibly
deprive a deserving player of a spot. A case could be made that
Michelle herself is also undeserving, but being deserving has nothing
to do with receiving sponsor's exemptions. It's all about the
Benjamins, baby!

Easy course. +6 and WD. Multiple leaders were -7 after the first day. I
don't think she has enough game to play the big tour. I have said all
along hat she will never make a cut. Didn't see anything this week to
change my mind.

Not sure why she fell to heat exhaustion but the WD was the right thing
to do. I was watching and I have been there where she was - staggering
around - disoriented. Only rest, cooling off and liquids can bring your
back from that.

> Not sure why she fell to heat exhaustion but the WD was the right thing
> to do. I was watching and I have been there where she was - staggering
> around - disoriented. Only rest, cooling off and liquids can bring your
> back from that.

I agree with you, heat exhaustion is no fun.

And for those that don't know what Illinois is like this week:

Right now 91 with a heat index of 104, later to go to 98 with a heat
index of 108. That is just damn hot and really uncomfortable and
dangerous to boot!

I went out at 7AM to play 18, things were a bit slow this morning. By
the time I finished 9 I was played out. My thermometer at home showed
90 at 9:30AM!
