Internacional is still contesting the anullment of 11 games refereed by
Edilson Pereira de Carvalho, as Corinthians won 4 points out of their
replays and would finish 1 point behind Inter if the anullment were to
be reversed. This is not likely to happen, though, and Corinthians for
the moment are the Brasilian champions of 2005, although Inter fans
have
also celebrated the title in Porto Alegre.

By scoring twice (from penalties) in Vasco's win over Paran=E1 Clube,
Romario, at age 39, became the Brasileir=E3o'05 top goalscorer with 22
goals.

If sports courts decisions do not mess up with anything, this is what
we
have from this season:

International qualification

Copa Libertadores: Corinthians, Internacional, Goi=E1s, Palmeiras,
Paulista (from the Copa do Brasil) and S=E3o Paulo (defending champions)

Copa Sudamericana: Corinthians, Fluminense, Atl=E9tico-PR, Paran=E1,
Cruzeiro,
Santos, Botafogo and S=E3o Paulo

Divisional Movements:
A -> B : Coritiba, Atl=E9tico-MG, Paysandu and Brasiliense
B -> A : Gr=EAmio and Santa Cruz
B -> C : Vit=F3ria, Bahia, Anapolina, Uni=E3o Barbarense, Crici=FAma and
Caxias
C -> B : Remo and Am=E9rica-RN

Here is the non-Zveiter table:

Congratulations to the Little One.

> Divisional Movements:

The sad part is Ponte Preta, S=E3o Caetano and Figueirense
stay up while teams with big followings like Coritiba, Atl=E9tico
and Paysandu go down. At least Brasiliense left the top
flight. For good, I hope.

> B -> A : Gr=EAmio and Santa Cruz

Welcome back.

The drop of Vit=F3ria and Bahia was even worse.

> C -> B : Remo and Am=E9rica-RN

This was good. Paysandu and Remo meet each other at
S=E9rie B. Big and peaceful crowds at the Mangueir=E3o.

As you probably know, the Brasileir=E3o rules state that no team, except
for the champions Corinthians, is allowed to play both Libertadores and
Sudamericana, and this probably should give the last Sudamericana berth
to Vasco da Gama (which is the team right below S=E3o Paulo on the
table).

Granted, CBF may still rule otherwise, but this would be clearly
against the rules' intent - to have more teams qualified to the
international competitions.

Well, yes, and that's what Vasco's board is hanging to. It seems that
Conmebol has indicated that they'll invite S=E3o Paulo, but that is yet
to be decided. There is a precedent though, as S=E3o Paulo has already
played this season in both the Libertadores and the Sudamericana,
without having been Brasilian champion of 2004. I guess that it was due
to their high Conmebol ranking, which of course has only been helped by
their Libertadores win this season.

> Granted, CBF may still rule otherwise, but this would be clearly

Indeed, and moreover, it sets a kind of double standard regarding
continental qualification - had S=E3o Paulo finished in the top 4, the
5th placed team would qualify to the Libertadores, as SP already has
the holders spot. If we consider the ruling that only Corinthians
should be allowed to play in both tournaments, the same principle
should hold true for the Sudamericana zone - or else, SP would be in a
situation where it is better to finish 11th and play two tournaments
than finish 4th and play only one...

Do you think that Inter will manage to revert the STJD position?

After all I have written about him this season, it seems like I need to
buy a hat and eat it. But I still think that some of his attitudes were
unnecessary, and that Alex Dias was the club's most important player
this season.

21st, 22nd and 18th average attendances.

4th (!!!), 3rd and 13th average attendances. Although it's sad to see
big clubs struggle, it is also a refreshing reminder that the days when
first division membership was also a function of popularity seem to be
gone for good...

> > C -> B : Remo and Am=E9rica-RN

Big crowds indeed. According to the CBF website
(http://cbfnews.uol.com.br/), Remo in Serie C had the highest average
attendance of the three divisions, with 29,666 per game. Corinthians,
in Serie A, had 27,319.

America-RN had the second best attendance in Serie C. Northern and
Northeastern clubs tend to draw very well. In Serie B, 7 of the top 10
avg att was from clubs from those regions. Meanwhile, Brasil's most
economically powerful state, SP, does not do any well in comparison.
Apart from the Iron Trio plus Santos, paulista clubs tend to have the
worst average attendances of the three divisions (Guarani in Serie B
being the only exception), and none in Serie C averaged more than 1,000
per game. Rather weird, considering that they tend to get some good
results on the pitch. I wonder why things are like this, where are the
paulista fans going?

Only if FIFA intervenes (www.sosfifa.org).

No doubt. Rom=E1rio should now go to Am=E9rica-RJ and finish his
career with a positive note.

Yes, that's the good part.
