[Gives Zidane a 3 match suspension and community service, but cracks
the whip with Hong Kong bars showing unlicensed broadcast of World Cup
matches. What a joke]

HONG KONG (AFP) - FIFA and Hong Kong Cable Television are suing five
local bars that allegedly aired unlicensed broadcasts of World Cup
matches.

Both parties are seeking financial damages for the copyright
infringements, according to the Cable and Satellite Broadcasting
Association of Asia (CASBAA), which represents 110 broadcasting
companies in Asia.

Hong Kong Cable Television was the only TV company in the southern
Chinese territory with a licence to broadcast most of the World Cup
games.

But some Hong Kong bars and clubs showed broadcasts from overseas
pay-TV channels which they accessed using special decoders.

FIFA and Hong Kong Cable Television have lodged writs against the bars
which CASBAA declined to name. It also refused to reveal the amount of
money sought from the bars which have been ordered to stop such
broadcasts in future.

"Although the industry reached out to the Hong Kong food and beverage
industry in the runup to the World Cup, stating that pay-TV signal
theft is not to be tolerated by government or industry, many bars
blatantly screened unlicensed pay-TV broadcasts," said Simon Twiston
Davies, CASBAA chief executive officer.

"We have had no choice but to take the matter to the courts," he said
in a statement. CASBAA has helped organise the action on behalf of
Hong Kong Cable Television.

Davies called for greater protection on intellectual property rights
especially in the leadup to other global sporting events such as the
Beijing Olympics in 2008.

You know, Chess the musical (composed in part by the BB of ABBA), was
a wonderful hit in London when I was a kid, but tanked in the USA.

This was the best of the songs from that musical, and in fact, after
posting it, I downloaded it. Good memories, too. :)
