Half time
Internacional (Porto Alegre-BRA) 0-0 LDU (Quito-ECU)
[1st leg: 1-2]
Very nervous game, a few half chances for us and
good defensive plays by both teams.

Tchau!

I told you it was Inter's year!

And what about the sophisticated prediction standings?

With one game left in the quarters, Bordon takes the lead:

1 Bordon 12.68760899
2 Luiz Mello 13.13869928
3 Jesus Petry 13.54167930
4 Ruud 14.14746136
5 Mark V 14.56160412
6 Michael Hynes 15.04746626
7 Agnostic 15.24923797
8 Futbolmetrix 15.27335272
9 James Allnut 15.32752607

Bordon's main strenght was predicting well Palmeiras'
early exit and S=E3o Paulo's advance to the semis, while
Luiz's score was hurt by Libertad edging River. Daniele
was surpassed by Aggie due to the Libertad win too.
The Paraguayan team has been so far the most
surprising in the playoffs, hurting most scores,
especially MH's, which dropped from 4th to 6th.

This is off-topic, but does nobody else see irony in the fact that a
handle adopted out of *dislike* for a player ("Bordon Is Gone") has in
the end forever linked that poster with the player he was happy to be
rid of? And with most traces of the "... Is Gone!" truncated?

Now something about the game.
LDU are strong. Most players are tall and fast. And they
have gained a boost of confidence with the Ecuadorian NT
campaign at the WC.
But Inter just didn't let them play. The strongest point of
the team yesterday was defense and defensive midfield.
And a lot of stamina. And "garra" too. Tinga left the field
injured, he seems to allways overexert himself, but he is
such a dynamic player. And Sobis was decisive. And so
was Clemer in the final moments, saving a dangerous free
kick. But the fans' favourite is always supersub Wason
Renter=EDa. The Colombian has identified himself to the club
in an amazing fashion.
Sobis received a headed pass from Fernand=E3o in the
middle of the attacking field. He ran towards goal
accompained by a LDU defender who couldn't stop his
strong low shot past Mora.
Renter=EDa received a long ball in the left flank and first
touched it over the rushing goalkeeper. The ball dropped
just inside the goal.

Here is Renter=EDa celebrating his goal with a "Saci Perer=EA"
hat. "Saci" is the Brazilian folklore character which is the
club mascot:

Actually, only three competitors would benefit from a
V=E9lez win: Bordon, James Allnut and Ruud.
In Bordon's case this is ironic, because his team,
S=E3o Paulo, would benefit from the opposite result,
then playing the second leg of the semifinal at home.

Lots of cars horning into the night :-).
Some concern about Tinga being available for next match.

What's even more ironic is that Bordon went on to have a fairly successful
European career. I don't really see him that often to rate him, but he can't
be that much worse than former World Champion Roque Junior, right?
