The monkeys that are jizzing themselves waiting for the PS3...
HAHAHAHA
Sony to Screw Us All?
Sony has issued a new patent for the PS3 which would block the console from
playing used, rented or borrowed videogames. Great. All the more reason to
go out and fork over $600 of your hard earned American dollars.
But, is this all together a bad move? Will something like this, although a
little smarmy, totally dissuade people from investing in the awesome that is
the PS3? Or will it prove to be a smart business move on Sony's part?
Experts Seanbaby of Seanbaby.com and Dawn Chmielewski from the LA Times
discussed the pros and cons of this latest Sony manuver.

Very dumb move. I don't gamble with new games being $50+. I will rent a few
for a couple of bucks to see if I like them first. To many games have short
shelf life. Plus I like the resale market. Often you can find gems of games
for a few bucks. I guess Sony only wants to sale to the high end market.
Over priced box + no rentals + no secondary market + questionable new dvd
format = failure.

I can't see them going through with it to be honest. They just wouldn't
get away with it... they'd be shunning the rental business, second hand
market, borrowing between friends *and* store return policies in one
stroke. It's just a dumb move. Plus if your console breaks down after
the warranty period (which happens a lot with Sony stuff) and you go
with the sometimes more cost-effective decision of buying a new console,
none of your games will work. Same if they streamline the machine and
you want one of the new ones as well.

Learn to read
"Sony has said little about the technology, patented in Japan in 2000,
or how it might be deployed. But speculation over Sony's plans has
sparked a furor online as game fans and consumer advocates fret that the
company may incorporate it into the upcoming PlayStation 3 console, due
to hit stores this fall."
Six years ago is not a new patent, and speculation is not reality.

Sony deserves to go bankrupt...that's the best-case scenario. The
worst-case scenario is that this fiasco could destroy the video game
industry altogether. I mean there will probably be some people who will
be turned off of video games period over what Sony could do because
they may think that other game hardware companies could follow suit, so
those people either end up boycotting the industry or rely on classic
gaming.
I'm intersted in seeing the Atari Flashback 3 when it debuts as it's
supposed to be based on the Atari 5200/8-bit architecture...I think
there's a possibility of using flash memory as the game storage medium
with so many games on a flash memory card...if they allow for homebrew
games to be played, it could be a big success.
