%&$#@* TV coverage of Reebok meet [message #1073803] Sun, 04 June 2006 11:19

Not that it's a surprise to American viewers. What is a surprise is what
they omitted: a women's 5000 WR. If they had their druthers they
probably wouldn't show distance events at all, and replace them with
another 25 replays of the 100 and 10 more biopic segments on how touch
some athlete's childhood was, but you'd think that a WR, on American
soil no less, would be significant enough to merit at least a mention,
if not a few laps.

I agree that the coverage is terrible. I taped the meet so that I can
skip over the endless replays and false starts of the sprints, which I
really don't care about. By taping it I can watch the 2 hour program in
about 15 minutes. At least they showed quite a bit of the men's 5000,
which was the fastest 5000 ever run in the US. Does anyone else find
Larry Rawson to be very annoying. His voice and his know-it-all attitude
really grate on me. Many of the facts he gives are wrong. I don't
expect TV coverage to improve.

i agree completely. the coverage of the meet was horrible. what makes it
even worse was just a couple days earlier espn's "outside the lines" did a
program dealing with the current state of track and field. then a couple
days latter they give the viewers piss poor coverage of the meet. let's hope
they do a much better job at the us track and field championships latter in
june.
by the way who still thinks marion jones is a CLEAN athlete? i can not
believe that at her advanced age(for a sprinter) and being away from the
sport for a year that she could be running these fast times without being on
something.

What, you don't believe in natural talent? I have no idea one way or
another but it would very risky.

i have my doubts that it is natural after a layoff of a year plus giving
birth to a child during that time.

Why is that worse? What did they say on that show?
