I was a spectator at the Friehofer's Run for Women today.
Benita Johson won, Natalya Berkat from the Ukraine took second and Lornah
Kiplagat was
third. Amy Rudolph was the first American finishing fifth.
Kipligat took the lead at the start and held it up to two miles at that
point Johnson took the lead and never relinquished it.
Kipligat looked like she was jogging at the end, I guess it happens to the
elite as well as us amatuers. I wonder if she was really spent or knew she
couldn't win and just was thinking "I'll get them next week in the NY Mini
10k"?
The weather was pretty crappy, it was raining pretty steadily during the
race. I wonder if that had an effect on the runners from warm climates? None
of the Kenyans or Ethiopians did particulary well. Personally I though it
was a great day to run!

I pulled all the local runners for my newsletter and the local paper and
the times were consistently slower for the rain. I wanted to get up to
watch but chores at home snatched my day. It's a phenomenal race - all
those beautifully fit women in one place. I hope this stays a women's
only race forever!!! ;)

I don't think that's going to change.
The rain came down pretty hard during the race.
Tommorow we get the honor of a run on the local trails with a number of the
invited women, Benita Johnson is supposed to be one of them. Hopefully it
will be a little drier than today.

I have the advantage, I know where I'm going, they don't!
