That means you got Brazil, England, and France. Pretty good bet I
think, although Germany as the home team and assuming Ballack doesn't
damage himself further would be my pick. Brazil are the prohibitive
favourites but usually a European team will win in Europe. For the same
reason you can largely discount Argentina even though they have some of
the best players in the world. France has some great players and Zidane
is playing his last soccer and probably wants to go out in a blaze of
glory. France would be my second pick. Italy is a good pick for the kid
- their soccer is under a cloud right now but I wouldn't be suprised if
they use the negative publicity to fuel their world cup ambitions.
My picks... Germany, France, Brazil.

Well, with a few days' games past us now, we can say with confidence....
nothing.
I like Brazil more than you do, with Germany prolly second. I have
trouble with a third pick, as all the obvious candidates have something
wrong -- old age, injuries or just weaker this year. England are my
choice, I guess, but that shocking display against mighty Paraguay makes
me wonder.

Personally, it just be nice if all the OT bullshit would stop for a
while. It is a fucking pool discussion group -- though some have
turned it into their personal chat room.
IMO, all that crap here is just as bad as anything from The Disease.

Well, as far as the soccer thread is concerned, it's only once every four years.
Besides, how tough can it be to beat at pool people whose major sport denies the
physical advantage of opposable thumbs?
And, btw, speaking of loosely-related subjects and rare occasions, what every
happened with that twentieth wedding anniversary gift suggestion? You never told
us how you made out...

Let's see: my father was named Larry, and his father was named Lars. Then one of
my cousins in Jersey was named Larry, and his father was also named Larry. So
we've got you outnumbered and pre-dated.
And, blessedly, none of us lives in Georgia. Even my little brother had the good
sense to clear out of goober country.

Yo horn head, did you know you fookers discovered American and actually
colonized it.
That fookin wop was lost, never stepped foot in American, did not have
a clue. He was going, watsa da deal here, dare is injuns all over da
joint, but where is india.
Da vikings fooked him and sold da wop a bad map. He should have bought
the The Piri Reis Map map made in 1513 and then he would have know
where da fook he wuz.

I think the bookies cleaned up. My friend had a pretty good bet on
Italy, but they had to win by 1/4 of a goal, which in the event meant
that he lost half his bet. I'm not sure how the odds were betting on
France, but I imagine nobody won, and lots lost a bunch.

I care Jim, I thought you might win when Germany and Argentina in effect
knocked each other out. I thought Germany and Argentina were the best 2
teams in the cup, but they unfortunately had to play each other in the 1/4
finals. I guess the guy you bet against knew his soccer.
Though I feel bad for your 100 buck loss Jim, I can't begin to express how
happy I am that France lost.
It must be time for you to organize another Jimbo-Jambo and win it back
there. Ehh??? :-)
Steve.

I thought you might. But at least I gave you the other finalist,
France, and if Zidane hadn't gone beserk and head-butted Matarazzi, you
had a good chance.
Notice that none of the non-European teams got through to the final
(Argentina, Brazil, etc) as predicted. And it was a toss-up between
Germany, France, Italy as to who would win.
Sorry I wasn't much help but it was a bad bet in the first place...
lol.
