This just in on the Zidane thing:

From Soccernet;

Materazzi was seen to hold Zidane's shirt on the edge of the penalty
box in extra-time at which point Zidane said

"if you want my shirt so bad you can have it"

Materazzi responded

"I dont want your shirt you m***** f*****. you're a f****** old man"

As they jog away Zidane is seen to laugh at this and it is unclear how
he responded due to him having his back to the TV camera

Materazzi then hit a volley of abuse

"you should've quit 2 years ago, you're a f****** has-been"

"m***** f*****! your mum is a f****** muslim terrorist and you are to,
f*** you old man f*** you"

"old man, this arena is not for you anymore m***** f*****"

Zidane carries on jogging away

"you are only good enough for Man Utd now"

It's at this very point Zidane turned and head-butted him.

Zidane shouldnt have reacted the way he did ... but if this account is true
its pretty disgusting
(I also read that Zidanes mother was in the hospital at the time).

Where did this account of what happend come from? Video evidence ??
Not suprising that Materazzi would deny it - he looks a right pratt if its
true.

Rock, you're humour detector is seriously defective, either that or you're
a Man Utd fan, which is a sad indictment on you anyway. :-)

Maybe my humour meter is defective ... I got the Man U bit but the whole
incident was a bit sour IMO.
Zidane is a great player and that was shitty way for him to go out ... I see
Materazzi backpedling like a circus performer
but if he said anythingn like those things the world should know that he is
a pratt.

Other than that I just wondered if Walter had actually paraphrased the rest
from some source other than his imagination.

Try reading online papers. All the quotes are reported as "possibly
true". And face it, you got whooshed. But as it happens it was an email
doing the rounds.

Chucking in a few buzzlines like " .. great player, soured the final
etc" really isnt required. Its a "taken".

I think it's bloody hilarious that various media outlets were able to so quickly locate and employ
people who are experts in lip-reading English spoken with an Italian accent - now there's a niche
market for you, these bastards have probably been waiting years for an opportunity to practice their
trade.

Even funnier were the discrepancies in what they reported Materazzi to
have said. Unfortunately the BBCs original report is now gone :(

But on that subject, I always fancied being a security pundit.

I would always start with "Clearly there has been a breach in security
and existing processes must be (expensively) reviewed".

Pundits. Pah. And now, going over live to Manure at the Blue Oyster :

"slurp, ouch, aargh, mushy noises, squawk, knew youd luv it Slutton, spurt"

err, and back to the studio.

Can't be too hard, especially if the target demographic is poofball
players. There's only a small vocabulary involved for a start.
