A good little "hilite" page of the Bledisloe struggle here:

...which inaccurately portrays the Bledisloe as if Australia has been
competitive or even dominant, when in fact Australia has held it for a
minuscule fifteen years over the 75 years that it's been played for, with
NZ holding it for sixty years.

That's not even counting the occasions when NZ graciously put the Bled up
for grabs while the ABs were touring elsewhere and fielded a B team.

Too many blooody Australian journos working in the Uk these days, obviously.

The best Aus-NZ game in rceent years (as in, a display of the best
rugby) was the 1996 Wellington test. Close to perfect rugby played by
the All Blacks in pretty average condition, and Australia just made up
the numbers.

Ancient history really isn't that relevant. Before 1980 Australian
rugby was just the Sydney club competition for private school graduates
with a national team of keen young doctors and lawyers who regularly
got dicked by all and sundry, including Tonga. I mean, TONGA!

If you really want to look at the Bledisloe Cup meaningfully, it has to
be 1980 and after, and forget about this "held" business -- that just
means it was played for in drawn a two-test series, and Australians may
call that "winning" the Bledisloe Cup but I sure as hell don't.

1980 - 3 tests - Australia
1982 - 3 tests - New Zealand
1983 - 1 test - New Zealand
1984 - 3 tests - New Zealand
1985 - 1 test - New Zealand
1986 - 3 tests - Australia
1987 - 1 test - New Zealand
1988 - 3 tests - New Zealand
1989 - 1 test - New Zealand
1990 - 3 tests - New Zealand
1991 - 2 tests - drawn
1992 - 3 tests - Australia
1993 - 1 test - New Zealand
1994 - 1 test - Australia
1995 - 1 test - New Zealand
1996 - 2 tests - New Zealand
1997 - 3 tests - New Zealand
1998 - 3 tests - Australia
1999 - 2 tests - drawn
2000 - 2 tests - drawn
2001 - 2 tests - Australia
2002 - 2 tests - drawn
2003 - 2 tests - New Zealand
2004 - 2 tests - drawn
2005 - 2 tests - New Zealand
2006 - 3 tests - ?

New Zealand 14
Australia 6

2000-2004 was a the best period I can remember because Australia have been
considered a geniuine threat in every game, if not favourite for at least
half of them. NZ and AU were pretty much ranked in the top 3 teams the whole
time and every game was down to the wire.
