Noticed an alarming similarity between the England rugby coach and his
poofball counterpart this weekend. Yesterday Eriksson took off the
only player on the pitch that was likely to get behind the opposition
and threaten from close-range (Owen) and replaced him with an average
midfield player (Downing), with the result that we never looked like
scoring again.
This morning (or evening) Robinson substituted 5 players in 10 minutes,
turning what had been a pretty disappointing performance, albeit with a
few glimmers of hope, into a shambolic final 20 minutes. Players who
had at least shown some form (Barkley, Lund, Catt, Richards) were taken
off and players who were clearly struggling (Varndell) were left to
play out the full 80 minutes.
Doesn't bode well for either team...

If you take a third of the team off, they will lose shape and it will
go to shit. Every coach - even at a lowly level knows that. Shame AR
doesn't, as now he's looking at a 30 point stuffing instead of a poor,
but not dire 16 (or whatever it was). It took Bath very little time
before they realised his limitations and let him go, and unless he
scalps a big team very soon, his time is up.

The win against asstralia & the near miss against NZ last year prolonged
the agony. If he'd lost both he'd have gone by now.
Despite his crap management, england will scrape enough wins to allow AR
to hold onto his job but a disappointing WC showing will finish him off.
John Wells will be the next england coach.

Or Harlequins will have a cracking return to the GP and the RFU will
try to get Dean Richards on board for 6N 2008
