Uncle Bully
Just noticed that alarming number of immigrants in the Wallabies nowadays.
They could just about field a full immigrant team if they wanted:
1. ?
2 Paul (NZ)
3. Blake (NZ)
4. Vickerman (SA)
5. Samo (Fiji)
6. Palu (Tonga)
7. Smith (Tonga)
8. ?
9. Gregan (Zam)
10. Halangahu (NZ?)
11. Tuqiri (Fiji)
12. Turunui (NZ)
13. Kefu (Tonga)
14. Rathbone (SA)
15. Gerrard (Tonga)

Can anyone fill in the blanks?

Interesting, however I would be interested to know when they immigrated

i.e
a) How many were already damn good rugby players before they emigrated
from their home shores

AND

b) Which ones emigrated with their moms and dads whilst at school or
earlier.

The 3 'Africans' I know. Both Rathbone and Vickermann were already good
players while Gregan I think was just a kid when his parents moved to Aus.

The others?
Australia can hardly be accused of raping anywhere if people move to
Australia as young schoolboys

Yes Rathbone, was SA U21 captain (and winning captain) AND a Sharks
Super 12 player. i.e. He had already attained a high std when headhunted.

I am interested in the others and in particular the Tongans

Isn't a high STD when you get herpes on your lips instead of your

That is of course you are talking about NZ pacific islander origin
players who moved to NZ with their families when they were young. The
you'd still be accusing them of raping the pacific. Otherwise, its just
considered migration.

Smack of double standards?

In the cases of six of the above-named, before they were born, which you
have to admit is rather clever.

Birth places:
George Smith (Sydney)
Morgan Turunui (Sydney)
Steve Kefu (Brisbane)
Mark Gerrard (Sydney)
Daniel Halangahu (Belmont, NSW)
Wycliff Palu (Sydney)

Incidentally, Rodney Blake is most assuredly not 'from' New Zealand. Born
in Tonga, his family shifted to NZ when he was about 14 but lived here for
only a few months before they relocated again to Australia. Another case
(like Samo and Willie O before him) of Australia being better than New
Zealand at nicking Pacific Islanders.

Presumably the OP was trolling.

The old man played for Otago in the 1970s, not during the six months the
Blake family lived in Auckland in 1996 or thereabouts.

Not at present although in the 80s we had the magic of the Ella
brothers.

Of recent time Andrew Walker and Wendell Sailor are both of Aboriginal
or Torres Straight decendency... Walker returned to league only to have
his career cut short due to a positive test for cocaine - and we all
know about Wendell!!!

Nope.It does smack of false assumptions though. Nowhere did I say this was a
negative thing, merely just an observation. In fact if anything it's a
positve example of successful multiculturism :)

Well this makes them all Islanders as far as the Australian press is
concerned.

At least, that's the way it works for New Zealand players -- I assume
it's the same for Australian ones. Or are you telling me there's a huge
double standard at work here? I am surprised.

Took it completely the wrong way then. I have no problem with
integration of differing cultures within a national team. The only cry
babies who moan about it seem to be the NH lads because they dont have
access to a diverse enough pool of players. More a jibe at them than
you UB.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but there are no "NH lads" in this thread at
all. Our current (NH) pool of players is about as diverse as it gets.
Our current problems are less to do with a lack of diversity than with
the common English problems of lack of belief and dodgy coaching.
