So, last night I am watching the golf tournament and what do I hear?
The qualifier from Hawaii is a 15 year old boy. He is the second
youngest qualifier in the history of the US Open. To top it off, the
kid is about 5 feet tall and averages 275 off the tee.
I don't recall reading about it or seeing any posts here. Pretty
remarkable stuff that simply got overlooked in the Wie frenzy? I hope
we get to see some of this kid in action next week.

Well, David there's your answer!
According to my "curmudgeonTheory"
This young "phenoms" mistake that made him non-newsworthy was having
the dreaded evil TESTOSTERONE in his bloodstream :-)

If he only averaged 275 off the tee, Wing Foot is going to kill him.
I'll predict now he's in the bottom 15 players.

Aren't there *any* good players from Hawaii old enough to vote?

If the rough is as punitive as they say, a short knocker has a chance,
if he's accurate enough.

If optimizing her chances qualifying for The U.S. Open is more
important to her (and Nike) than optimizing her chances of winning a
Women's major, she should have stayed in Hawaii.

I wasn't making any commentary on where she should have attempted to
qualify but just noting there there was, in fact, a thread here in RSG
on the topic.
But, if you'd care for my opinion on the location, in order to attempt
to qualify AND play in the LPGA Championship, she had to make the US
Open attempt somewhere nearby Havre de Grace, MD because of travel
logistics.
There may have been other east coast locations, but Canoe Brook was the
choice she made.

She can't play in the LPGA until she is 18. Today she can play only
where she has a special invitation or qualifies-- She is a pro--and
thus cannot play in the US Amateur and other prestigious national
amateur tournaments--even though she could easily qualify--rising to
the top of the 10,000 men who enter every year.
When she is 18 she may be among the half dozen best players in the
world--man or woman!

I've mentioned it in four or five posts, but it seems to be very annoying
to Michelle's RSG cheerleaders. :)
Seriously, though, Tadd doesn't have 10 million dollars of Nike sponsor
money making sure he is kept in the spotlight. Plus, he's a guy. If he
makes the cut at the Open, he'll get plenty of coverage because of his
age. If he misses it, he'll be forgotten.

he's forgotten as he has not one chance in hell of making the cut

You are, of course, more than likely correct that he will not make
the cut. That is simply not he point, however. He qualified for the
US Open at 15 years old. He may even shoot 90 both days. Do you
think he'll care? He is playing. Anyone have any info on who the
youngest person to make the cut at the US Open is? Ah, hell. I guess
I'll look it up for myself before I get ragged on by certain
individuals.

Nope, wrong. You're right that he has little chance of making the cut.
You're wrong that that's why he's forgotten. He's forgotten because of
Michelle's huge endorsement contracts with several large and influential
sponsors. Nike (and whoever else signed with her) wants Michelle to
be thought of as in a class by herself. A 15-year old who makes it to the
U.S. Open, which is something Michelle tried and failed to do at that age
and again at 16, is very inconvenient for Nike. They've got a lot of
money sunk into Michelle; they don't need some other young golf prodigy to
come along and grab any of that spotlight. Tadd has already done what
Michelle couldn't. Nike would prefer it if the media didn't make much
mention of that.
If Tadd makes the cut at the Open, I think he should sign with Callaway. :)

Wie's other big sponsor is Sony. Both Sony and Nike use her in marketing in
Asia Pacific region, which is something that Tadd cannot help a sponsor
with. Her Nike marketing is more geared toward clothing that to the golf
equipment.
