Because Gattuso doesn't mention "winning is important" at all.
He only emphasises that he doesn't want to celebrate 2nd place.
Your translation:
"Playing football only winning is important. Only the English could
make a party for the second place, we are Italian."
My translation:
"Because in football, to arrive in second place...only the English celebrate
second place, we're Italian...and it's right like that."
