And Barnes has one less tool in the shed. He should've applied
for the NCSU job.

Why? Barnes realizes what a cush situation he's got in Austin. Tons
of available talent with unlimited resources and no pressure since it
is a football school.
You ACC folks tend to have an inflated sense of the NC State job.

I'm halfway joking. If could do a little better than Herb,
especially against the other Big Four teams, he'd be a god
at a more prestigious basketball shrine...

....then again he was everyone's bitch, especially UNC's, when
he was at Clemson. Ending his career by repeating that, um,
"performance" at NCSU would leave a really metallic^Wsour
taste in his mouth.

You should read the views of NC State fans....

Hard to say for certain, but I'd guess his chances at a title (and
getting the talent to do it) are greater at Texas. Every hoops player in
the state wants to go to UT, particularly now that they're consistently
a very good team. And, now that he has talent to play with, his teams
aren't the plodding bangers that he had at Clemson. They get out and
run, but still play pretty decent Barnes-style D.

Yes, but he made Clemson a tourney team on a somewhat regular basis --
that's a pretty big accomplishment. I think he would be able to bring
NCSU back to respectability. Even though he would likely be at best #3
of the Big 4, I suspect he would make sure NCSU wasn't a cake walk for
UNC and Duke, and might be able to put together an ACC title contender
every 3-5 years.

True, though I'd think he'd be "contender" about half the time.
My point is that there is an upside to moving to NCSU, but it
comes with a large risk. I'm sure Barnes thought about it, maybe
even for several seconds.
