Yes the Pistons run will end tonight.
Don't get me wrong I have much respect for what they've accomplished. An
NBA championship and this year team's best 64 wins. Detroit inspired fear
from opponents powerful enough for Pat Riley to implode his squad last year
and sign off into one of the leagues all time blockbuster trades involving
5 ballclubs bringing in Williams, Posey and Walker.
Miami could not capitalize on turnovers, and lack defensive disposition.
They were leading the last years ECF with 2 minutes left on the clock but
it might as well be eternity. Simply it was was too long a time against the
defending champions. Detroit advanced past the Heat. The fact that game 7
was on Miami's home court made it all more painful.
This juiced-up Miami squad have the finals within reach for the first time
in club history. Not without uncertainty...Fact is a lot of local sports
journalist had Detroit in 6. Certainly could not hold it against these
experts. All through the regular season this Heat crew was a model of
inconsistency. With Van Gundy's departure it added a whimsical melodramatic
perspective to a team trying to find its identity. Detroit on the other
hand was blazing trails on their way to an NBA best 64 wins.
As the playoffs slowly unfold. Pat Riley's vision started to manifest.
After struggling initially against the young guns of Chicago, Miami found a
way to roundup the Bulls and slashed thru the Nets of New Jersey.
Here we are game 5 on the ECF. Detroit is slow, fatigued and befuddled. All
this excuses about not getting enough rest for the starters, Flip losing
it.
This might be new Detroit, but matter-of-fact is Pistons is not the better
team.
Buenos noches Detroit!
