Another outing to Kingsbury Water park near The Belfry Golf Course
though a different course than the Kingsbury Classic 10K gave me
another PB this time 47:45 by my timing . Heavy rain and a tricky off
road course was quite a challenge and neede much concentration
especially on the muddies parts of the track where even studs probably
wouldn't have helped. There were parts of the course on road and paved
track too as the course twisted and turned around the many lakes and
pools of Kingsbury water park. There were kissing gates to negotiate
too that sort of broke the moment and some hairpins too , the variation
between path, road, track , muddy track , firm field and soggy
waterlogged field made it difficult to settle into any sort of routine
though how much this was due to my running at the edge of my ability
and not the course varitation I can't say.
A small field of just 106 made it quite pleasant at the start line ,
its clashing with the Asic Cure Leaukemia 10K in Sutton Park must have
had an effect though the torrential rain couldn't have helped . It did
mean that as the race got going the field spread right out and for a
while I could see noone infront of me and at one junction the was a
moment where I wasn't sure which way to go but it was Ok and there were
plenty of Marshals most of the time. No water station and in the hard
rain there was no need to be honest but had it been boiling hot ( not
much chance of that in a standard UK Summer) they could have been
missed.
So all in all a challenging course which was good and a PB again for me
which was better, I'm wondering what I could manage on a flat course
with plenty of others around me to pace me to a quicker time. I'm going
to take a week off running and perhaps just have a few short runs
whilst away on holiday next week.

Come off it Spud, the course was enough to screw your time by a fair whack
if your perofrmance wasn't progessing. I mean kissing gates on a 10k
course?! Not to mention the other elements...
Nice to see you're "on a roll" after all that time injured.

Congrats on the PB in pretty sorry conditions! Er, what is a
kissing gate? All sorts of lurid things come to mind....
Get some good rest and have a good holiday!
