I'm looking for a 4 1/2 X 9 ft pool table for my home. I want to get the
best table I can, and have looked at Olhausen, Brunswick, and AMF tables on
the web. I like the look of a Gold Crown IV.
Any suggestions on what you think is the BEST table period. Would appreciate
any and all comments.
While you're at it... who makes the best balls? Thanks.

Gold Crown has been the gold standard for many years. Retains resale
value very well too.

A Belgian firm named Saluc (www.saluc.com). Their brand name is
Aramith. They make identical balls for Brunswick under Brunswick's
Centennial brand; the only differences are stylistic. You can probably
get a free set of Centennial's thrown in with a Gold Crown.

Possibly the one-piece slate Diamonds, though the Chevillotte Europa-Master
(available heated; I want three of these - carom, pool, snooker - and a
place to put them) or high end Gabriels would certainly garner lots of
bragging points, and it's questionable whether they're "better" than the
Olhausen commercial models or the Brunswick's Gold Crown IV. Of the latter
two, I prefer the cushions on the Olhausens (which are the same on all of
their models, even the cheapest).

Ditto to everything Dhakala said. I have the Brunswick Gold Crown in my
home and my poolroom and I have the super aramith balls on my home table.
They are pricey but, they are the best. While you're at it get the measle
ball too! I think it is called the pro cup cue ball also made by aramith.
If you're gonna do it, do it right!

Sadly, this is no longer true, and hasn't been since the
GCIII. If you like the retro look of the GC I or II, you
could get a used one.
Whatever you get, ask for "real gum rubber" rails, which are
typically European rubber. Don't settle for the ground up
Burmese bicycle tires that some companies seem to be selling
as pool cushions.
Also, for ultimate stability, look into getting a table with a
steel frame.

But be aware of the very special sound and feel of a steel framed
table - I played a Lehmacher(?) with steel frame for years, but
couldn't get used to it.
