Thank you Codocks [message #1036415] Mon, 22 May 2006 04:49
Matua
I would like to thank Codocks for honouring the bet we had, concerning the
Waratahs vs Crusaders. Codocks has just contacted my local Bottle Store and
paid for a case of James Boag's Premium. I will give him a chance to win it
back on the Bledisloe if he likes.
Anyway thanks again Cod's, appreciate you honouring the bet, and so
promptly.

Cheers Matua.

That's fine Matua.....nice people at your local and it seems this is not the
first bet you've won :)

I had a choice last Friday night..........watch the Waratahs or go and see
under 10's....it was a no brainer really, the kids were fantastic.

I'm disspointed, not for the Waratahs being beaten, but for the utter lack
of imagination in the backs in the last two weeks. They have a manual of 10
year old League moves which are now as predictable as a Gregan flick pass.

Anyway, good luck to the two most deserving teams

Listen you pommie poof, at least Cod's had the balls to have a bet How many
times have I asked you to take a bet, to put your money where your mouth is
? Mind you I wouldn't
take the money because it would be rapped around Mikeys flute.
You haven't got the guts to put up $1.00, let alone $50.00 for a slab. So
fuck off!!

To us it's a slab of beer, but when you live in a cardboard box down an
alleyway, it's a conservatory.....

By the way, I bet you don't get past 5 before you fall over and piss
yourself, how's that?

Typical pom all talk, I'll tell you what Didge I'll bet you a slab of
beer to the value of $50.00 that the Wallabies beat England on 11/6/06 in
Sydney. ok ?

If you were to reverse that you might get some takers. As it is, I
think you'll need to offer some pretty hefty odds - say a case of Dom
Perignon 1962 to one half-empty can of Fosters that's been used as an
ashtray for the last three weeks - before you find anybody daft enough
for that.

Better make those magnums if you're serious about finding somebody...

Give them to you and Didge That's all you poms would bet, "empty ones"
And then if you won, you could stick them up your arse. But I suppose that

Sadly no. Whilst I expect us to win by brutal forward power and a
backline faster than the Jamaican sprint team, I can't bank on what the
Aussies will do. Probably stay up all night making noise outside the
hotel again.
Still, it should bring in a few extra punters for you, good luck.

Didn't need to, it was Aussie Beer right! Why not try Cascade instead of
Boags if you have to have Tassie beer?

Mate you have justed what a total fuckwit you are in one post. Boag Premium
is liquid gold

I hate saying this but at least Matua has good taste in beer ( going to cut
my fingers of now )

The only drinkable beer I found on the Lions Tour in 2001 was from
Tasmania. It had a Tasmanian Devil on the label (marketing whiz-kids
in Tasmania evidently) IIRC - would that be Boags?

How anybody can drink Fosters and XXXX and stuff like that defeats
me, but then I've been spoiled having been raised on German beer. It's
simnple really, no judge was going to be dumb enough to deport a decent
brewer and no brewer able to make his living in Britain was going to
volunteer for the Colonies was he? Which is why, without exception to
my knowledge and experience, the Colonies are almost totally devoid of
decent beer.

Cheers

Not, that would be Cascade Premium, and you drank it at my house if I
remember rightly.

Horses for courses, Dave. I fancy you would be quite keen on the James
Squire Amber Ale, which wasn't available when you were here, or the
Cascade Four Seasons. But you'd only want to drink them in the winter.
You might even like the JS Indian or the Rogers, but they're a tad
floral for my liking.

In the summer, you can't go past Cascade Premium or even better, Cascade
Pale Ale (being nothing like what you'd call pale ale). Boags is good,
Coopers is good, Redback does a nice wheat beer, and a dark beer called
Dogbolter. There's a new local brewery here in Perth called Gage Roads
that does a very nice pilsenser too, if any residents in the West Island
see it about the place.

Rick I like the James Squire Pilsener. I had a couple of bottles of Little
Creatures the other night but there's too much perfume in it, but hey I
suppose that would suit Covey.

Little Creatures, that's the other one I was trying to think of. yes, I
agree, like Rogers and JS Indian, it is too floral. The bloody experts
rave about it, but what the fuck do they know? It's all "hint of
raspberry, with overtones of caramel" -- fuck off you posers. In my
book, beer is either fucking awful (West End), awful (Fosters),
tolerable (Tooheys New), agreeable (VB, Tooheys Red), good (Tooheys Old)
or fucking good (Cascade, Boags, Coopers). A special mention to a couple
of Belgian beers like Forbidden Fruit which fit into the Exceptionally
Fucking Good category, although that may be helped by the infrequency of
consumption.

There is also a special place in the heart for a flagon of half flat DB
consumed at 3 am in front of the TV during an All Black test.

Coopers. Mmmmm. Nothing wrong with an ice cold VB either, when it's 40C
outside. Redback is fantastic, but gives the worlds worst hangovers.

And the "completely ridiculous" category that includes that chocolate
beer they make in that bar in Fremantle.

Boy, that takes me back, why was it half flat, didn't you drink it fast

Tooheys Red agreeable?? Now I know you're looney. Horrible stuff, worse
than Tooheys new, which I rank on par with VB - you got them the wrong way

Well, you know how it was. DB never gained much by being poured into a
flagon, and after having it open for a while it lost what little gas it
had. Not that it really mattered with DB.

Can't say I recall Red band particularly. I do remember Leopard in tin
plate cans you could run over with a car and not damage, Double Brown,
Waitemata, DB Green, Lion Red...

Ah, happy days.

Yea the old Waitemata. My old man used to call it "cup of soup" He said it
was the only beer you got a drink and a feed in the same bottle.
I remember the old Leopard cans, they had their own can opener in every
slab. No rip tops then. Ah yes Brew 22, Bass, absolute shit.Lion Red was the
go.

Must have been a colony home brew bass then, because a real Bass is a top class ale.

No way, Boag's is a beautiful smooth beer. much better than VB,
Tooheys, xxxx,Fosters. Carlton is quite passible. I don't know wether they
still make it but there used to be a beer called Courage, and you needed
courage to drink it.

Am I the only one to see the irony the the only time Matua is able to

Oh was it? Well thanks for that - I found it in a few hotels along the
route after that. We drank wine most of the time - going to Australia
and drinking the beer would be like going to Belgium to eat Mars Bars.

Jeeze Mr Boyd, for a Kiwi transplanted to Sandgroperia, you have good taste
in beer.

If you see Cascade Amber around, try it also. (Not particularly expensive,
but doesn't seem to be widely available here in Qld).

I wouldn't know a hint of raspberry with overtones of caramel if it hit
me over the head...

but I knows what I likes.

You know, that's the real shortcoming of the newsgroup. So many
discussions here would be immeasureably improved by a steady supply of beer.

Why don't you "piont" out a few beers for us Mikey? I bet ginger beer would

Judging by that selection you'd have to be from Wellington originally.

I used to work on the wharves in Wellington and remember seeing soft
sided containers of export Leopard cans being "accidentally dropped" from
quite a height, and unusually large groups of wharfies rushing in to help
"clean up". I remember being surprised that most if not all cans survived
the fall (but not the cleanup)

Which leaves us not at all surprised you're the kind of guy who drinks
