I should like to make myself a Stimp meter since they are probably
unncessarily expensive to buy.
I know roughly what they look like and how they are used but can someone
give me some specification details:
Are they made of angled wood or some type of metal alloy?
Is there a notch to hold the ball until it the stimp meter is lifted to to
the required height?
What is that height and how long is the "chute"?
Thanks.

They are basically a metal bar with a gully for the ball to roll down,
and a notch to retain the ball until the bar reaches a certain angle.
The bar is 3' long and the notch 6" from one end. Unless you are
comparing like with like it wouldn't matter how your was constructed.

Thank you Roger, Alan and Martyn.
Excellent information - just what I was seeking.
Not sure why I did not find the USGA and Putting Green web pages through
searching but never mind now.
If I have read correctly, balls should roll 2 ft 6 inches down the
Stimpmeter at an angle of 20 degrees.
