Not a big deal, and not a great score, but I shot the best game of my
life this afternoon. On the front 9 of the Stockton Golf and Country
Club, I shot a 41, five over par. Had 4 pars, 1 birdie, 3 bogies and 1
double bogy
I typically shoot a 46-50 on each nine.
Just enought to make me want to play again.

I'd encourage a good round after a great round. I set a PB on last
Sunday and the following Sunday I missed that PB by two strokes
(although admittedly an ESC adjusted two strokes).
The first thing to keep in mind is that if you've done it once, you can
do it again.
The second thing to keep in mind is that that rule only applies to good
things. :)

Wouldn't that be the best half-game of your life?

Nice shooting, Mark.
Drop a couple more putts and you're in for 39!

Reminds me of a girl I went to school with, her name was Virginia, we
called her Virgin for short, but not for long. :-)

I confess, it's true. I also confess it was a long, LONG time ago. :-)
What is it these days? 6th grade? Perhaps we should ask Annika1980.

I only played the front 9. Kind of didn't want to ruin a pretty good
experience. I knew it would catch up with me, so I didn't give it a
chance"-)

Shit. I was born in '67, but grew up listening to the original
Broadway cast recording of Hair, Dr. Hook's "Sloppy Seconds," and the
Rolling Stones' "Hot Rocks '64-'71." Do I get partial credit?

Slipped up. Still happening at the end of July, more or less. Goin'
out lookin' this weekend.

I'm generally the opposite. I played in a tourney 2 weeks ago, a cold
windy Sunday, shot the worst differential in 2.5 years at 19.1. Worked
on my game the next day, then played on Tuesday, and had a 5.6
differential, and have played 4 more times since then with nothing
worse than a 9 diff.

You never know. About 3 years ago my game really started to change. I
shot an even par 35 on my local muni (9 hole course). I was planning
on only playing 9, but decided to give it a shot. After all, a
possible 69 doesn't come along very often. Played another even par
round for a 70. It was a milestone and my game from then on went to a
new level. It was like a light switch turning on. Maybe this was your
chance to start shooting low 80s on a consistent basis.... and you blew
it!! Just kidding.
I've experienced similar successes in different areas of life. I'm a
self taught piano player, and my skill level would increase in waves.
I might be able to play the same quality for a couple of years, then
all of a sudden a new ability would just show up and never leave.

I just read an article in the June 3rd Golfweek, about Speed Golf.
Here's a quote:
A teaching professional at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club in Oregon, Smith
has become an advocate of fast play. He does not tell his students to
run, but says bluntly that virtually all golfers would play better if
they played faster.
"It is the American mindset now that a round of golf is going to
take 5 to 5½ hours," he says. "People believe they have to play slowly
to play well. I think that's plain wrong."
=============
My career round was 2 months ago in a cool evening with virtually
nobody on the course - and it was also easily my fastest round. I
didn't hurry, but played about 2 hours faster than my Men's Club
Saturday rounds. (We also didn't have 4 players).

sheeeit, I got my draft notice in '67 so that makes me 18 years older
than you. I now want 18 strokes a round!

yep, and good luck in your hunt for new quarters. I'm wishing for a nice
place at Dana Point on the beach so I can come visit and drink cocktails
while watching the sun go down :)
