If the rules of golf allowed you to use more than 14 clubs in
competition, what would they be?

If you carry more than 14 clubs in rounds that don't count toward your
handicap, what are they?

And finally, when playing a round in competition, what 14 clubs do you
carry?

I'd like to have both long irons and short woods, in case the wind
comes up.

I'd like to have a left-handed mid-iron.

In a practice round, I might carry two drivers - tee of with both, and
see which worked best.

It depends on the course conditions. Most often I carry:
D
3W
5W
22° SnakeEyes
5I
6I
7I
8I
9I
PW
AW
SW
LW

I'd put a 2-iron and 3-iron in there. I sacrificed my 2-iron for a 5-wood
and my 3-iron for a sand wedge. The 3-iron would close the gap between the
5-wood and 4-iron (though that hasn't been a problem, yet) and the 2-iron
would be great for tight driving holes.

Right now, I carry the following:

9* Driver, 15* 3-wood, 19* 5-wood
4-iron through pitching wedge, 52* gap wedge, 56* sand wedge, 60* lob wedge

Probably a second putter, a second driver, and my 3-iron.

But even then, if I'm walking, I don't know that I want to carry more
than 14 anyway.

I only carry 14. ROG, you know.

Driver, 3-wood, 5-wood.

I'm sort of wierd, I don't carry a driver. I've never hit one very well and
I hit my 3 wood just as far, but a LOT straighter. this season I've actually
been hitting my 3 wood less and less (been teeing up with a 4 iron) and
having GREAT success. I've never understood it but I hit my driver, 3 wood
and 4 iron the same distance off the tee, any idea why? I hit my 4 the most
consistant so I'm sticking wiht that for now
in my bag I carry:
3 wood
7 Wood
4I

Maybe a spare putter, but would more likely drop a club, don't want to
carry too much weight.

Dunno, I'd have to think about that. Maybe a couple of drivers, or a
few extra wedges?

I don't carry more than 12 or 13 usually.

I often only use 12 to lighten the load, but if I was to go past 14 I would
add my 3-iron, a LW, an additional GW (52*), and a hybrid or two.

> If you carry more than 14 clubs in rounds that don't count toward your

I stretch it to get to 14, so I never go past anymore. I used to
occasionally bring 15 or 16 on pure (don't keep score) practice rounds but
that was with a completely different set makeup (Driver, 3W, 5W, 7W, 3-9
irons, 50* GW, 53* GW, 57* SW, 61* LW, putter). For anything resembling a
real round I would drop the 7W or 3-iron and the SW.

When I ride, these are my 14:
10* Driver
16* Fairway wood
19* Fairway wood (usually don't use)
4-9 irons
46* PW
50* GW
55* SW
61* LW

You may get this answer from others, but I don't use the 14 that I carry in
each round. Depending on the course, I may hit some of them that I don't
use on others, so the 14 that I'm allowed under the rules are just fine with
me.

It may seem strange to others, but I started to mentally keep track of
what clubs I actually hit on the courses I play, and just started to
carry those. (I took any club that was clean out of my bag...LOL.)

So I carry now:

D
5W
7W
27* hybrid
5I
6I
7I
8I
9I
SW

Ever considre getting a 14 degree driver? It's the same loft as a 3W and
has the potential for being much more forgiving with a 460cc large face..

That works fine - within limits. I didn't hit into the sand the
last time I play, therefore I don't need to carry a sand wedge
anymore.

Do you carry a long iron in your car for windy days? Or a different
wedge for when you play on hard sand?

If it was allowed, I might carry more wedges with a smaller gap between
them.

Sometimes, if I'm unhappy with a club (normally fairway woods or
wedges), I'll carry a couple of different ones on practice rounds and
hit multiple shots from the same place.

Currently I carry:
9 degree driver
13 degree 3 wood
18 degree hybrid
22 degree hybrid
4-PW
52 degree wedge
58 degree wedge
putter

I used to switch between my 55 degree wedge and one of my fairway
woods. I stopped that when I realised that I hardly ever used my 55.
I don't really want to keep a larger set that I select from. I'd rather
make sure that I'm confident with the clubs I'm going to use for real
and all my practice is with those clubs.
E.g. I wouldn't want to practice with 4 wedges, then drop one for each
round. I reckon I get better results by picking my clubs and making
sure I can play whatever shots I want with them.
