Youksef appointed manager of Charlton [message #1017484] Fri, 05 May 2006 23:21

Great news, guys, I changed the application like I said I would, sent it off
and here's what just came back:

==============
"Dear UKSF,

We are delighted to offer you the position of Manager of Charlton Athletic
Football Club, with immediate effect.

Naturally, and for the sake of complex tax issues and something to do with
share options, we will also be appointing a 'patsy', who will be officially
known to the media as 'The Manager' and will conduct interviews and the
suchlike and shout incomprehensibly from the sidelines during matches, but
other than that will have no say in the running of the club.

All decisions regarding team selection, transfers, formations,
sex-incentives and team stuff will be solely the provision, and
responsibility, of UKSF. Regarding your wages, for the same tax purposes
they will go through the 'patsy' account, but when we know who the patsy is
we'll give you his number, you can give him a ring, explain who you are and
demand most of his wages. If he gives you any trouble he'll be killed and
replaced.

We will accept and follow any e-mailed instructions from any one of you at
any time, how you choose to delegate such communications and the suchlike is
up to you. The contract is a provisional two-year deal, with an option to
extend it mutually at the end of the first year.

We look forward to working with you, and trust that you feel the same way.

On a more personal note, I've been a keen admirer of your newsgroup for many
years now, and particularly enjoy the comedy stylings of Michael Cunningham.

Yours,

Peter Varney.

So, that's great news isn't it? We'll all the manager of Charlton now.

If anyone gets any great ideas about the formation'n'shit for Sunday, just
e-mail them to bigcahuna [at] cafc.co.uk and we'll see how it goes. Then I think
we should discuss transfer targets for next season.

How about a line-up of:

Cooper
Burley (player-manager)-Butcher-Hreidarsson-Taricco
Ambrose-Holland-Wark-Thijssen
Bent-Bent

A good mixture of youth and experience, and with the essential ITFC theme
that rings through Charlton these days.

You know it makes sense. Bring on Alan Brazil at half time - he can still
do those mazy dribbles - many because he's plastered 87% of the time these
days.

Have you not got Morris and George on the wrong sides? But
anyway, I reckon that line up would probably hold their own in
the EPL no problem.

Thanks, Peter. Always nice to meet one of my fans. I look
forward to managing your club.

Btw, I've got a gig coming up in Ealing Community Centre in
June. I'll sort you out with a couple of complimentaries.

There seems to be a slight flaw in the system. I just emailed a
suggestion that we go with a Conlan inspired

"WTFAY?"

Still, they did get back to me very quickly, so things can't be too
far out of alignment.

As long as we have a season long booking at the marriott hotel in canary
wharf all should be fine for a premiership trophy in our first season. I
hear its recommended by all good nutritionists.

It's not so much that I'm old, Demo. It's more to do with everyone
else being so young. You whippersnippers should show more respect, so
you should.

In my day it was polite for the young folk to be not seen and not
heard. If we saw an old woman poised hesitantly at the side of a busy
road we'd give her an encouraging hand. If we stumbled across some
poor bugger's wallet stuffed with notes in the street we'd damn well
make sure he got that wallet back. I can remember a time when all this
was Paul C...

Which Ealing Community Centre would that be then? I fear you may have
been misled.

He's a sneaky bugger is Mikey. Suspected of being a lover of the great
outdoors, he argues all the time and yet still rose to the pinnacle of
the Yahoo heap.

It just goes to show, the path to the top is rarely straight.
