Yeah, but now Queensland Reds coach Eddie "Not winning 7 out of 9
internationals isn't losing" Jones is getting all cosy with Willie
Tonga.

The exodus begins. Next thing you know, Hopoate will be playing for the
Hurricanes. He suits their game style.

Pretty much as I predicted, Gasnier is yet another League player using
Rugby as a way of negotiating more money out of League.

We've now had Anasta, Johns, Gasnier, and a couple of other minor names
go down the same path, one after the other. You wouldn't want to be a
League player who REALLY did want to make the switch because, from now
on, I doubt the ARU would give you time of day.

Wasn't the original approach to switch codes made by the ARU?

ARU will continue to make offers to League players. They have long memories
and if they can cause League some indigestion they will continue to do so

You think the ARU should waste man weeks of effort on activities that
deliver absolutely no benefit to Rugby? Activities that ultimately
makes Rugby the try hard bitch of players agents negotiating
deals with League?

Feel free to dwel on the past if it amuses you, but I'd be very bloody
disappointed (and surprised) if the ARU bothered with that sort of
thinking or time wasting.

Waste ? As if they really put a lot of effort and time into it . The story
got Rugby in the papers and on the news so it wasnt a waste.

ROFLMAO

Mate the ARU are a bunch of bitches and the State Unions are not much
better.

If the ARU has a chance to snare a quality League player and they pass up
the chance then they are fools

Are you completely daft Will? Of course they put a bloody lot of time
and effort into it. McKensie met with him twice. Flowers met with
him multiple times. Connelly met with him at least once. After every one
of those meetings they would have later written up meeting notes and
submitted them for others to read. Letters would have been written
backwards and forwards, phone calls all over the place, strategy
would have been discussed and agreed on, both with regard to Gasnier
himself and the media in general. And in the end the ARU had
to spend time putting together a specifically tailored deal. And,
of course, the entire time the ARU PR guy would have spent days
on the phone answering questions. We're talking multiple man
weeks of effort.

The ARU seem to have handled this professionally from the beginning, and
that takes a LOT of work. The difficulty for the ARU has always been
gaging Gasniers true level of interest. They've always had their
doubts but they were placed in a difficult position by a player's
agent working all the angles. Good luck to the players agent, he's
doing his job and good luck to Gasnier, he's probably extracted another
$500,000 from League over the next few years. The only one to suffer
is the ARU.

They won't like it, and neither would I expect them too. What they
have done by withdrawing their offer is make it slightly harder for
Gasnier to extract the last mile in his St George negotiations. A
hollow victory, but something.

And, to your other point, exactly what's the benefit of having stories
about Gasnier rejecting Union and the ARU being taken for a ride? How
does any of that put Union in a good light?

Calling someone 'daft' is name calling and a really shocking insult
is it? Are you serious?

FFS man, grow some balls and defend your point of view with
a few lucid arguments. Getting all huffy is what women do when
they've lost the argument.

Carp is it? Well, in my experience, negotiation and media management
is a time consuming process that takes quite a bit of brain space and
coordination. I've never found it to be "Sweet FA"?

If your experience says something different, you must be one of these
hyper-efficient business people. Good luck to you if you are, but I
doubt the ARU is quite in your league, you legend.

You're just regurgitating great chunks of player-agent spin. Just
look at the facts. He's extracted a massive offer from Union, and
has taken it back to his League Club. As a direct result, they have
significantly increased their offer. Now what part of that isn't
staged and EXACTLY what Gasnier would have wanted to happen.

Sorry, but I've said from the beginning that Gasnier was bullshitting.
Willy Tonga, on the other hand, might at one point have been a
genuine chance, but never Gasnier, not from what I can see. Once
you strip away the layers of spin - media spin on top of agent spin -
the facts shout for themselves.

I think it's publicity whoring at its worst. Forget the ARU didn't sign
their man, they got the desired result - publicity.

Wait 'til the ARU starting raping the AFL.
