Gregan banned for one match
08 May 2006
Brumbies halfback George Gregan has been suspended for one Super 14
match due to a dangerous tackle against the Highlanders on Saturday.
The Australian veteran was suspended following a hearing by a three-man
Sanzar panel for his tackle on Highlanders winger Richard Kahui.
Gregan's exemplary disciplinary record helped him escape a larger ban.
The one-match ban means Gregan will miss Friday's clash against the
Crusaders in Christchurch.
He will be available to play in the semifinals, which the Brumbies are
almost certain to make unless they lose heavily to the Crusaders and
the Sharks or Bulls have huge wins.
************************
Kahui could have....ah, fuck it.
Gregan should have received more IMHO but I'm still shitty about the
"four more years, boys, four more years" episode. Little grommit.

The judiciary is a joke.
Let them sort it out on the field like the old days.

Heh! Quite.
The punishment was consistent with others for similar types of offence
though.

Would have expected more but given the SANZA judiciary reputation would have
expected an exoneration or if the NZRFU was involve a life time examemption
for killing players on the field.
REFORM THE TRI -NATIONS judiciary NOW

Quite. Gracious in victory has never been a big part of the Australian
psyche.
But as for the ban, the judiciary probaly considered the altitude
factor. How much harm can be done when a dwarf spear tackles a player,
after all? The fall is only a matter of inches.

The ironic part to that call was that he too will have to wait four more
years. And the bonus is that he'll also be waiting at least four more years
ofr the Bled and the 3N too :)

Angry, but not surprised. We all know the fucking convicts always get away
scot free
Even if Grogan had knifed him, and then cut off his tauwekas he would have
still got 1 week. I only hope the Crusaders bring on a reserve and do the
same to him this weekend. Mangu teke.

Crusaders again.
This week, Crusaders play Brumbies in Christchurch, and Waratahs play
Hurricanes in Sydney. Should both games play to form, next week will be a
exact repeat.

No, the irony was that NZ were raging hot favourites to win. Oz were given no
chance by all and sundry. All the more motivation for Gregan's call.
But then again, that was nearly four years ago. Must really hurt all these
kiwis, for them to recall this stuff after such a time, that's for sure.

Hey Comical Ernie, do the Gregan and Tipoki suspensions mean that NZ
are leading the way with regard to rugby thugs?
But seriously, you can draw incorrect conclusions if you pour over the
slow motion replays. In reality it is a split second between spear
tackle and good tackle. If you take a slow mo of a super model walking
the catwalk and put it in slow mo, I bet you would get a fair share of
pictures that look like your sister.

Yeah the pain lasted about a week, then we realised we still had two out of
three. And what of the poor old Wallabies? When was the last time the
Wallabies won anything? It was about 4 years ago now wasn't it? Oh the

If the years of assaulting the ref's ears had been considered he would
have been banned for life.

How the fuck could Rockly Elsom get 4 weeks for defending one of his players
in which was a pretty harmless handbag episode yet a player could have had
his neck broken and the player get 1 week. I think Ewen Mackenzie's dry
comment that standard sentence for a spear tackle has been set is apt.

Yes yes I get that bit, but how does a multiplier fit into it?
When you play games (or series), your wins add up, they don't multiply.
I guess we'll just have to write it off to stupidity.

Did you learn this from personal experience or did someone have to point
it out to you?

Andy, say it once, say it loud, I'm straight and I'm proud.

I don't know. Because Gregan is Wallaby captain perhaps? God knows what
the uproar would be like if the All Blacks captain was involved in
a...spear tackle...incident......oh. Right.
The League model of scaled judiciary looks more and more appealing.
> I think Ewen Mackenzie's dry
> comment that standard sentence for a spear tackle has been set is apt.
Technically the same thing could have been said after the BOD incident.
So it's not like it's a new issue.
What irritates me is this whole "Referees have been told to crack down
on misbehaving in the breakdown/scrum/lineouts/loose play/rucks/mauls
(delete as applicable) this week". Then the ref catches eight shades of
shit for inconsistency from everyone, after they have to make split
second decisions on instinct while at the same time, sprinting up and
down a rugby field.
Now the judiciary, who have all the time in the world, and all the
camera angles, and the resources, can't manage consistency on the most
clearly dangerous actions onfield.
