[ZP] Leeds and that loyalty thing again ... [message #1005611] Mon, 08 May 2006 01:26

"Leeds confirm mass player exodus
Leeds have confirmed that 13 players are to leave in the wake of the
club's relegation from the Premiership.
Among those to tell the Tykes they are departing are internationals
Gordon Ross, Iain Balshaw and Gordon Bulloch."

So, Justin Marshall and Phil Davies knew something the rest of us didn't
- or maybe they precipitated it? Still, Leeds are not going to "do a
Harlequins" and maybe it it is now time to expand the ZP and ring-fence it.

Most of the players are getting on a bit and have a few years (injuries
permitting) in the top flight left and don't want to spend one or more
of them on reduced wages playing in the 1st div playing teams named
Cornish Pirates and Earth Titans (who the hell are they!).
I dare say most of the players don't think they are coming straight back
up either, especially now.

in an era where clubs show little loyalty to players (see Tindall,
Bath), why should the players be loyal?

This is underlined by Newcastle's appalling treatment of Walder

Squeaky is a real prick sometimes.

I thought that one was coming. In the articles where they are talking
about Wilkinsons comeback, Andrew was saying things like "we were
forced to put him on as Dave Walder was kicking badly and missing
tackles" - now when he's publicly slagging him like that, it's no
shock. You're right - he can be a real prick.

I wonder where Walder will wander. I think he's worth a place. In Wales
he would fit nicely into either the Dragons or the Ospreys, is there
anywhere in England for him?

Can't think of a club that would really require his services at the
moment - certainly not as a starting 10.
