I am shortly to contact rugby clubs in the Oamaru area for a mutually
beneficial arrangement (I hope! Non finiancial I hasten to add ... )
but am trying to gauge what club(s) are actualkly in Oamaru.
A google indicates there appears to be Athletic and Old Boys, but
several other clubs appear to have addresses in oamaru... which could
mean of course the town supports several clubs (cf. New Plymouth in
Taranaki) or maybe these other clubs are outlying towns but use a
Oamuru address.
Is anybody able to advise? Which are the main clubs in Oamaru?

_every_ club on that page IS in Oamaru, or just uses an Oamaru address.
e.g. I can guess that OAMARU OLD BOYS R.F.C is in Oamaru... but what
about MAHENO R.F.C with an address of PO Box 193, Oamaru??

Maheno is 15 kms from Oamaru. Oamaru is probably the nearest post office
these days. Or else the club secretary might live in Oamaru. The only one
with a postal address not in Oamaru is Kurow RFC, and Kurow is a long way
from Oamaru.

The three senior clubs in Oamaru are Oamaru Old Boys, Athletic and
Excelsior, who all play at Centennial Park. The Valley club play at Weston,
which is more-or-less Oamaru (say 5km from Oamaru town centre). As Apteryx
said, Maheno is about 15km south of town, while Kurow is bloody miles inland
up the river (although the trip might be worth it if you happen to discover
the next Richie McCaw).
