I have to give him to Manny. He taught Wlad to make some interesting
changes that are paying off. Byrd never had the power to hurt Wlad but
still, its great to see a skilled fighter like Wlad become more skilled
(e.g., moving to the sides of your oponents rather than backing up
straight back; pacing yourself better to avoid losing too much energy,
etc.)
Wlad did the best thing by hiring Steward after the Sanders fiasco.
Then again, in terms of talent alone, Sanders was more talented than
Wlad and any of the crop of heavyweights of today. If only Sanders had
hired Steward early in his career....what a formidable fighter he
would've been.
What a waste of talent.
Anyways, with Steward by side, and more seasoned with his teachings,
Wlad now stands a good chance in becoming the Lewis Lewis of our times.

I wouldnt say so, although Steward is teaching him well, his game plan for
Byrd only worked because Byrd totally cooperated with it. This guy wasnt
boxing, jabbing, moving his head or throwing any combinations like he did to
the 6-6 McCline. Manny Steward is the best possible trainer he can have,
but I will have to wait and see how he does against REAL heavyweights, as I
posted here a few weeks ago, I think Byrd was overrated, he is NOT the
heavyweight version of Pernell Whitaker which a lot of people seem to think.
On a side note, although the money is not what he is used to, I think it
would be wise for Byrd to try cruiserweight since he can make it very easily
anyway. Without DK to force him into title shots, his heavyweight career is
basically over.
