Out of a combination of boredom and disgust I decided to google rsru for
today's date 10 years ago (1996 Dully). It made for interesting
reading. I widened the dates and looked at February. Even more
interesting. Even some deja vu in places - maybe it just seemed as
though I'd been there before.
I reccommend the exercise to our current list.

I think I joined up around August, so I can't imagine it would be worth
reading.
Still, there's Rhodri Howell (didn't he do the original FAQ?), Ben
Clegg, Ceri Griffiths, Paul (Sheds) Dutton giving the Welsh a hard time
as usual, Gerald Copp, Paul Kendall, Paul Bickerstaff of the original
Idaho Uni rugby list, Nigel Evans being relatively civilised even, Koos
(as Ferdi was known in those days), dear old Bill Taylor (come back
Bill!), Tim Fry, William A T Clark not complaining about spoilers
because everyone was frightfully civilised in those days -- even Koos,
Daniel Claassen, Elizabeth Goldenburg, some fucking left wing idiot
called Daryl Johnson whom I vaguely recall, Paul Waite, F. Jacot
Guillarmod ... God I feel old.

I was quiet that day, but, somewhat uncharacteristically, posted a set
of tables on 22 April 1996...

I see that in Aug 1999 I posted that Lomu was going to sign for Cardiff.

Elizabeth Goldenburg was wonderful. Worked for Reuters or some other
wire service as I recall so rsru was always first with the breakers.
For some reason John Williams and Didds weren't showing up at that time.
That mate of UD's who disappeared to the round ball game... That left
winger was more of a wishy washy liberal I thought. Lisa Smith
fantasizing about Rodber, oh and Ros, from the antipodes providing in
depth analysis, The Ponty Cyclops - you're right I feel old too.
There appeared to be evidence of Nigel not just being civilised but also
running a fantasy 5N - which is hard to believe I know.
Didn't it have a rare charm though that all the posts were about rugby?
No trolls, except for Dutton, still plenty of humour though, and the
focus was wider than England v NZ.
Oh and I used an Amiga, a 14k modem and tin.
Errrrrr mumble mumble green fields.

This Conservative Government has a lot to answer for. There are
too many people in the community who ought to be safely locked
away.I've
thought for years that some of the Bath players needed psychiatric
help
and am grateful that Rowell has now seen the error of his ways.
Whilst the cost of care for the England team can be met
easily
by a few more "hospitality" tents, the cost of treating their
supporters
will be astronomical. It's not fair that Welsh,Scottish and Irish
should
have to fund this.I recommend a reduction in the basic rate of income
tax ,for supporters of Wales,Scotland, and Ireland so that we three
nations can continue our work for the advancement of rugby.
Nigel Evans
That from some time in '95.
He might be a miserable fucker, but he is consistent....

I was exclusively on-line at work from 1992 through 1995. It took me
almost a year between buying a modem in 1994 to actually getting the
sodding thing to work (or more precisely somebody else getting it to
work).
In 1996 I was spending far too much time playing Championship Manager
and when I wasn't doing that I was emailing John Morgan about it and
updating UD's rugby pages.
Ee, them were t-days...

And it seems in 1995 I was saying the League structure in England was
great and would not lead to more boring rugby in England.
I'll get me coat.
