Ashton to England [message #983134] Mon, 24 April 2006 14:39

The rumour mill has been working on this one for a while and I was told
by a mate at Bath today that it's a done deal. Barkley is not happy as
Ashton is the only reason he signed a new contract. He doesn't fancy
being condemned to playing Connollyesque rugby again, and I can't say I
blame him. Shame for Bath, but I bet Wasps fans breath a sigh of
relief. Before anyone asks, no we don't want Lydon.

Are Wasps fans in the clear or is there still a chance that they'll try
to poach Edwards to do the defence coaching? Edwards and Ashton in a
straight swap for Larder and Lydon.

Any idea who might take over at Bath?

I used to play with this lad in the colts. He said that this morning
the players have been told that BA is off (although obviously no
announcement from the RFU yet). I'd say that Wasps fans can indeed rest
easy. As for the Bath replacement, personally I'd like to see Richard
Hill given a go, but I can't see him leaving Bristol. The Ruddock
rumour seems to have died a death now.

Callard or Grayson for the kicking, can't lose there.
Edwards looks the biz, it would be a shame if he didn't get the top job
at England at some point.
We'll find out for sure on Wednesday.
