British Open Championship
July 20th- 23rd
Royal Liverpool Golf Club, Hoylake, Eng
Live on TNT/ABC
Purse: $6,750,000
Last Champion: Tiger Woods
The 2006 British Open will be played over Royal Liverpool Golf Course from
the 20th - 23rd July 2006. The Open was last played here in 1967 when
Roberto de Vicenzo was victorious. This will be the 11th Time in History
that this prestigious tournament has been played here with past winners
including the likes of Bobby Jones and American Walter Hagen.
Following long discussions with the R&A and careful consideration by Royal
Liverpool Golf Club the decision has been made to change the order of play
of the course for the 2006 Open. The 17th and 18th holes will become the 1st
and 2nd, so that the 16th becomes the final hole. While the 1st - arguably
Hoylake's most famous hole - becomes the 3rd. The decision was not taken
lightly by either the R&A or Royal Liverpool Golf Club.
The 16th Hole is a 558 yard par 5 is a far more challenging and dramatic
hole to complete what they believe will be a great Open. Featuring out of
bounds all the way down the right, it invites a death or glory second shot.
In addition, the 16th is more suited to the kind of Grandstand for which
British Open Championships are well known and will maximize sports betting
fans viewing.
In last year's tournament, Colin Montgomerie was eager to take a lot of
positives out of his performance. The thing he can't take is the one thing
he wanted, the thing that he still yearns to acquire, the one hole in his
stellar resume.
The resurging Scot couldn't take home the Claret Jug or his first major
championship title. "There's no disgrace in finishing second to the best
player in the world," Montgomerie reasoned Sunday after he was runner-up to
Tiger Woods in the 134th British Open. True enough, but there's also little
satisfaction in it. Montgomerie, a stalwart for the European Ryder Cup team
and winner of a record seven straight Orders of Merit as the leading money
winner on the European Tour, has been there, done that and wept over it,
too.
His best Open finish -- and just his second top-10 in golf's oldest major in
16 starts -- gives him a set of four silver medals. Twice he finished
runner-up to Ernie Els in the U.S. Open (in 1994 and '97) and he also was
second to Steve Elkington in the '95 PGA Championship. The '94 and '95
setbacks came in playoffs. He also finished second in the 1996 PLAYERS
Championship.

Thats 'The Open' Kathy.
But again, nice post, with an added link to a sports betting site. Thanks,
might have a little flutter.
What prices do you have for the last race at Yarmouth tonight?
Thanks
Ian
