| Spring Growth [message #982868] |

Is everyone experiencing the difficulty of bringing the golf course on to
the usual stanadrds expected in spring?
We are still in the 'early/mid March' course condition, and have not had the
benefit of warmer temperature and light rain to bring the growth into
spring. As such, aprons and surrounds still have bare patches and thin
grass, the greens have growth in the hardier grasses but not in the finer.
This is leaving the greens looking poor, although they put reasonably if you
are lucky and play close to a recent mow.
Bring on the warmth, I want the grass to grow!
Swing just about as good as it gets, handicap poised at 12.4, bring on the
season!

We have had the same problem at our course...although the greens have
been good. As Chairman of Greens I have had moans about the lack of
grass, lack of definition on the fairways (especially with winter
rules). In the last week the grass has suddenly spurted so I am now
getting complaints about the fairways not being cut and the growth being
patchy.
oh the delights of being on the committee!!!

As Chairman of Greens......
Alan,
Apologies for being a pedantic old sod, but the term is "Chairman of
Green", the "green" being as in the term "through the green" and is not
related to the 18 putting greens.
It is a very commonly mis-quoted term.
Its one of those things that makes the hairs in my nose bristle, like
referring to The Open as The British Open.
Regards,
Malcolm

Malcom,
As usual you are absolutely correct...just a bad habit on my
part...and, as you say, is nearly always misquoted by golfers.
Good luck when you play those Northeners in a few weeks...it is
definitely the Southerners year this year.
