The West Course at Westchester CC is one of the country's most beloved
courses. Originally designed in the 1920s-a time many considered to be the
"golden age" of golf course design in America.
Its architect was the talented and spirited Walter J. Travis, passionate
golfer, editor of The American Golfer magazine and designer of over forty
courses throughout the country. In 2005, certain refinements were made that
make this classic course even more rewarding to play, and the play more
enjoyable to watch.
Of course, the renowned challenge of the West Course remains, daunting even
the most seasoned players and promising a thrilling week of world-class
golf.
The Barclays Classic, at Westchester Country Club is entering its second
year. The finale of the 2005 tournament has already achieved legendary
status and all sports betting fans enjoyed it; but it was just the latest
chapter in the remarkable history of PGA TOUR competition here. In fact, few
tournaments have as rich a tradition behind them as this one.

In 1967, the very first Classic at Westchester CC saw Jack Nicklaus defeat
Dan Sikes by one stroke. At stake was the largest purse in golf history at
the time-$250,000. Since then, a "who's who" of other golf legends has taken
home the prize at Westchester CC, from Arnold Palmer to Hale Irwin, Vijay
Singh to Sergio Garcia.
The 2006 purse will be $5.75 million, one of the largest ever awarded at the
Classic. Add to this the formidable Westchester Country Club West Course,
which provides one of the greatest challenges on the PGA TOUR, and the stage
is set for yet another year of dramatic competition.
