I just found out Nickel Creek are playing at some place in
Coventry on the 19th.
Just in case you didn't know.
Ben, you should go, too. Show them how to play proper, naked
mandolin solos.

Good spot, I'd already had a peak though. I thought either that or the
Sheffield date could be on the cards, if I can be arsed. On the band's
website, it's listed as the "Britain, Scotland & Ireland Tour". Henderson
would be proud.

I like what you're doing here, Rob, it's a lovely idea, but I've seen enough
RomHomComs in my time to know that this sort of thing always backfires. Let
me guess, here's how you imagine it going:
"Hey, Ben, fancy meeting you here!"
"Al! What a lovely surprise. Hey, you still single? Me too. Let's just
be lovers and live gheyly ever after".
When in fact, one or the other will get there first (I'm guessing Al), and
Ben, cuntspiratorially waylaid en-route, will arrive just in time to see the
culmination of a highly unlikely series of events which resulted in
something that looks like Allen snogging someone but actually isn't.
Ben, of course, will run off in tears and the whole sorry affair will just
drag on even longer and more predictably than before. Probably at least
another hour or so before they actually get it on, during which months or
even years of their lives might pass. And ours.
It's all so depressingly predictable, I really think you should be pushing
Allen and Ben in more of an arthouse direction, maybe there could be some
fairly graphic sex scenes, a dream sequence involving a baloon, and one of
them might die in an accident.
Give it some thought.

Funny you should post that.
I thought it's about time I actually shared some of my naked ghey mando shit
with teh froup, so:
http://www.bennunn.com/bleedalone.mp3
Bear in mind this is an extremely rough cut, and encoded rubbishly because
I'm not very good at integrating my musical and technological worlds.
Actually, if anyone has any tips on how to get parts with bass in to encode
to MP3 without sounding all scratchy and rubbishcunt, I want to learn this
shit. It sounds OK in Sonar, just won't go through the WAV and MP3 right. It
worked in the past, but not today for some reason.

Heh. I like this, the chords are the same as 'Blue Monday' for the
chorus/intro but the feel is much more 'Saturday Night' by Wigfield. It
does need beefing up a bit, maybe some good junglist beats and some
scratching would sort it out.
Anyway, I give it a cheery 6.2/9

Sir Benjamin Nunn's performance in this film was an example of
an artiste ate the top of his craft. Never before has a film
succeeded so successfully on every possible level. When a
masterpiece such as this has so many highlights it is hard to
pick out just one but the scene where Al thinks he is getting a
blowjob from a tramp and it actually turns out to be Ben is
simply magic on celluloid. I give this 9/9.

I'm glad you noticed. Actually it's the verses from this that are the same
as the Blue Monday chorus, e.g. I-III-VII-VI
Same as '74'75 by the Connells and shitloads of other stuff. And change the
VI to VI, and you've got yourself 'Wonderwall' and some more ghey shit.

I fucking hate that Connells track. It's the most boring thing ever.
How do you change a VI to a VI anyway?

The similarity of the chord sequence didn't bother me, as you've pointed
out, it's been used shitloads of times. However, I thought the vocal line
in the chorus was a shade too similar to Blue Monday. I rather took to
singing "How does it feel..." along with your harmonies n'shit.

I went the other way, and considered remixing the whole thing on Cubase so
it was Blue Monday but with Ben's vocals. If some cunt sends me a Blue
Monday mp3 I might still have a go at it.

Never mind about the details. This is powerful and erotic stuff. Not
to mention powerful.
Not many artists are brave enough to tackle the difficult subject of
menstruation in song. About half the world's population experience it
first hand during a major (on several levels) part of their lives and
yet bugger all odes to the periodic purge ever make it into the
charts.
Oh sure, Simply Red gave it a discreet nod and attempted to downplay
its significance in a manner that only heartless men could, but they
were rubbishcunts and Mick Hucknell was never going to engender
sympathy of any kind, yet alone awareness, the soppy ginger cunt. Twas
a case of thanks Mick, but no thanks on behalf of the sisterhood,
apparently.
I particularly like the way you've eased us into this sticky subject
through the imagery of some poor waif desperately trying to conform to
an unforgiving society's expectations by having her first bash at
shaving her legs. Quite fitting when you think about it as both events
often occur around the same time and how a young woman deals with them
could have lasting repercussions.
I'm often guilty of being one of the first to jump in with the "Why do
you want to be a woman, Ben?"s whenever you allow us to sneak a peak
beneath your skirt, but I've gotta say that I'm well impressed with
this crystal clear insight into your inner turmoil. "Bleeding lonely,
bleeding hope" indeed.
If it makes you feel any better about life's cruel twist in depriving
you of the one experience, then you go right ahead and shave those
legs, Ben. Society be damned. If removing unsightly manly hair brings
you closer to releasing the beautiful butterfly that dwells within,
then I say "Bare those shapely calves, baby." You go girl.
Btw, didn't Os paint his bathroom red once?
