News from January 27.
The NBA dismissed Chris Andersen (NO) from the league for violating the
league's substance abuse program. As he had not been suspended previously
for performance enhancing drugs (ie, steroids), he was mostly likely
tossed for a positive test for "drugs of abuse", which could be any of
methamphetamine, cocaine, LSD, opiates (including heroin, codeine,
morphine), and PCP. The NBA Players Association will automatically appeal
the dismissal. If the dismissal is upheld, Andersen can not apply for
reinstatement for 2 years.
Chicago signed James Thomas to a 10-day contract. Chicago elected not to
sign Stephen Graham to a 2nd 10-day contract.
Toronto fired director of player personnel Pete Babcock.
Phoenix placed Nikoloz Tskitishvili on IL.
Indiana placed Jermaine O'Neal on IL with a torn left groin.
Boston placed Dwayne Jones on IL.
New York activated Jackie Butler and placed Jerome James on IL with a
strained neck.
Miami activated Earl Barron and placed Dwyane Wade on IL.
Detroit activated Carlos Delfino and placed Alex Acker on IL.
Minnesota placed Marcus Banks and Bracey Wright on IL.
Milwaukee activated Charlie Bell and placed Reece Gaines on IL.
The LA Clippers activated Boniface N'Dong and placed Zeljko Rebraca on IL
with chest pains. Rebraca is expected to be out 2 to 3 weeks as a
precaution.
Denver activated Marcus Camby and placed Julius Hodge on IL.
New Jersey activated Lamond Murray and placed Vince Carter on IL with a
sore lower back.
