It was good that New York Knick Antonio Davis was calm when he ran into the
Chicago stands last week to defend his wife, but if someone had thrown a
beer or struck Davis, we could've had an ugly episode on our hands.

But if it were your wife, your girlfriend or your kid in trouble, what would
you do?

We shouldn't make athletes choose. Pro sports leagues should move family to
protected sections.

.. Top five point guards in NBA history: 5. Isaiah Thomas; 4. Bob Cousy; 3.
John Stockton; 2. Oscar Robertson; 1. Magic Johnson. Next week: Shooting
guards.

.. Just 2-of-15 in last-second shots in his career, LeBron James is looking
more like a role player and less a franchise star in the final minutes. Last
week, he declined a wide open, potential winning 3-pointer at Denver to pass
to someone nicknamed Sascha (Aleksandar Pavlovic), who promptly walked.

Where did you get this stat on Lebron? I'd like to know what MJ's was
on last second shots.

Back when his "That is why I succeed" commercial came out, the LA Times did
an article on the number of game-winners in his career up to that point.
IIRC it was in the low 20s, versus the 26 misses mentioned in the
commercial.

So they're reading in North Carolina now? Thanks for settling that point
guard thing, anyway.

If I were a column about baseball, I would probably say something like the
following:

Here are several different lines taken from 82games.com's "Clutch Play"
page. "Clutch Play" means "4th quarter or overtime, less than 5 minutes
left, neither team ahead by more than 5 points". The lines are of
SuperClutch SuperKobe Bryant, Everybody's Crush SuperDwyane Wade, MVP
choice of everybody who voted for Nash last year Chauncey Billup, and that
big ol' lunk Lebron James who isn't clutch and once passed the ball to
Sasha Pavlovic which is a mistake even *I've* never made, for Chrissakes.

FG. FGA FG% eFG% Ast'd Blk'd FTM Pts
12.1 25.4 .475 .538 26% 8% 11.4 38.8

13.8 36.2 .380 .405 20% 3% 17.0 46.3

12.2 30.6 .400 .400 30% 4% 14.1 38.6

9.2 26.5 .348 .402 25% 4% 15.0 36.3

Then you would have to figure out which three are the late-scoring heroes
of our time, and which line belongs to the privileged not-going-to-college
late-Olympic-meeting-arriving-at out-of-wedlock-baby-having shrinking
violet. I don't like games like that, though, and anyway haters are gonna
hate no matter what, right?

Being confined to a wheelchair, I would calmly yell, "Everybody down" and
open up with an AK-47 for which I have a concealed weapons permit. Innocent
bystanders would be considered unfortunate collateral damage. I would hope
to kill the perpetrator and have a large life insurance policy on my wife
that paid off under any and all circumstances.

But that's just me.
