A lot of people are forgiving Phil Jackson for pulling Kobe from the
Dallas game since he got his 81 pt game yesterday. But honestly, I'm
not nearly as impressed with Kobe scoring 81 pts against Toronto (who
are .341 and give up 102.6 ppg) as if he did it against Dallas (who is
currently .756 with 93.7 PAPG). To me, that was about as impressive as
David Robinson pouring 70+ on the Clippers... impressive, but c'mon, it
was against the Clippers!
I compared the top all-time games against the caliber of the opponent:
100 Wilt (1962 vs NY .363)
81 Kobe Bryant (2006 vs Tor .341)
78 Wilt (1961 vs LA .456)
73 David Thompson (1978 vs Det .463)
73 Wilt (1963 vs NY .263)
73 Wilt (1962 vs CHI .225)
72 Wilt (1963 vs LA .663)
71 David Robinson (1994 vs L.A. Clippers .329)
71 Elgin Baylor (1961 vs NY .266)
70 Wilt (1963 vs Syracuse .600)
69 Michael Jordan (1990 vs CLE .512)
68 Pete Maravich (1977 vs NY .488)
Most of them were against crappy teams. Now imagine Kobe up there with
80 against Dallas, a .756. I'd have to say that was more impressive
than Wilt's 100 against NY because of the caliber of the opponent.

What makes all of thus SUCK so bad...Kobe was on a hotter streak that night
against Dallas than he was against
Toronto...If he had played all 4 quarters...What would he have scored???....
We will never know...:(

The Dallas game was long decided by the end of the third. Playing Kobe
just to get some record would seriously anger Dallas, which will come
back to haunt the Lakers. In the Toronto game the game was still in
question. By the time the game was won, Kobe was very close to a
record. Thus he should've stayed in for the record. This was not the
case for the Dallas game.

That is true. I am going to predict that in the future, if Kobe is on a
hot streak and could threaten to break 60 or more, he'll start letting
the other team back in the game (either on purpose or subconsciously)
so that he won't get benched with the game out of hand.
