Am I right in believing that I am permitted to have a hand warmer of some
form in my pocket and keep a ball next to it, but that if I keep the warmer
in a pocket on my golf bag solely to warm balls I am DQd?

My wife didn't know what a double entendre was - so I gave her one!

That's interesting. I came across a number of players who, in the depths
of a Scottish winter, always played with two balls - one in play and the
other in their pocket. At each tee they were changed over. Is that
classed as artificial or natural warming?

That's 'natural', unless some sort of artificial device is used to aid
the warming.
