Tee times - Advice when playing abroad [message #782895] Sun, 01 January 2006 12:08

Hi

Could anyone offer advice on whether it is better to purchase the golf
tee-times here in the UK before travelling to Tenerife or when we are there?
Not sure which offers the best deals? We are staying at Golf Del Sur. Any
advice will be appreciated as never been abroad for Golf before.

Depends on where you are going. As you are going to Tenerife I will
give you my own experience as an example. I took both mine and my
wife's clubs to Tenerife for a week's break and visited the clubs and
asked for a time to play. I was told "Yes, Sir, will a week next Friday
be OK?" Needless to say I was back at home then. Busy, busy Tenerife
and plagued with perpetually slow players. The clubs felt very heavy on
the way back!

Alternatively I have just arrived back from Christmas in Cyprus,
staying in the Paphos region. We played all three courses there and
just needed to turn up to play with few golfers around. Of course when
I e-mailed prior to departure I was told that it was essential to book
and pay the fees beforehand because it would be very busy at that time.

You pays your money and takes your choice. Tenerife is the only place
that I have failed and have played at many foreign regions. So I would
advise booking there if you want a slow round.

I've used this company in Portugal and Spain. I cannot fault them. The
service was good, even whenI had problems of my own making, like forgetting
to take vouchers to the course. The discount on green fees is negligible but
you can guarentee your round will be booked. Like any other booking, the
sooner you make it the better.

I have always bought them in the uk as it has normally proved to be
cheaper. Do it direct with the courses themselves though, rather than
through agencies.

In Portugal, IMO, it is cheaper through the agencies! Even cheaper if you
manage to pay cash instead of card.
I was out there in early Dec on a non-golf trip. I booked the golf for a
trip in a couple of weeks paying cash and saving the 4% surcharge that they
all seem to put on. The agent was MacGolf at: www.algarvegolfdesk.com
