The ER folks told me later they were impressed with my behavior during
the time, giving clear directions about my kid, and addresses and phone
numbers and such.
Now I think I understand why they said that. That must have been one
nasty head gash to see at the time. But blood has never bothered me, and
there wasn't much pain -- no worse than the many times I've banged my
head on the joists under the deck. I was more pissed because I knew the
rest of my evening was going to be spent at the ER, and I'd been looking
forward to one more of the Goombay's most excellent grilled tuna
sandwiches for dinner.
If you ever end up at milepost 7 in Kill Devil Hills, NC, stop by
Goombay's on the Beach Road. Great food, funky beach decor: the ceiling
is made to look like the underside of the ocean surface, with the bottoms
of surfboards showing and jellies & such hanging from it.
