Yeah you...the one down the street.

We don't have to pay to park on the streets in our little town. This
time of year the city doesn't even care on which side of the street you
park.

Why do you therefore insist on parking on your front lawn???

It makes for that much less lawn to mow?

In Gatorville, you can get fined for that.

It isn't your yard... why do you insist on caring whether he parks in his
front lawn?

P.S. Cars parked in the street get hit, a lot.

Which is exactly why many cities have enacted ordinances against doing so.

Start a campaign, Jon!

I hope it's not propped-up on cinder blocks, at least.

:We do. It is just isn't enforced.

Drop a dime.

Or perhaps do the neighborly thing and have a friendly discussion with him
where you inform him of said ordinance.

I don't know if it's enforced here or not, but it definitely is not enforced
on game days. I think some people pay their rent by offering parking on
game days.

So? It isn't your yard.

These attitudes remind of exactly why I absolutely refuse to live in any
planned subdivision or anywhere with a homeowners association.

Well, and it is against city ordinances.

And anyway, I could make my house look like some sort of demented
hauted house on the outside if I wanted to. Just because I *can*
doesn't mean I *should.*

Why should your neighbor care what you think about how his lawn looks?

your neighborhood doesn't have driveways/garages?

To me parking either on the street or in the yard are both poor
options.......park in the garage/driveway.

A rather stupid city ordinance... reminds me of my friend who lived in a
Chicago suburb where they weren't allowed to park pickup trucks in their
driveway. Cars were fine, but if you had a pickup it had to be in the
garage.

True, but if everyone on your block this does this, except you, and you try
to sell your home one day... well, location, location, location, etc. It
does make a difference.

Property values donut stop at the property line. Bad neighbors can be
ruinous when trying to sell a house. Also, there is something called
civility. When you move into a neighborhood, you don't try to take the
neighborhood to your level, whether that be up or down (not that a lot of
people will complain if you have a meticulous yard, just don't bitch when
they don't follow your example). The thing to do would be to introduce
yourself, get friendly, have 'em over for a weenie roast, watch the game,
quaff some brews, and then come back in the middle of the night and slash
the tires.

Oh well... you can use this justification for controlling the color people
paint their houses, the types of landscaping they're allowed, what kind of
vehicles they can park in their driveway... pretty much any silly
"aesthetic" rule you should choose.

If you stupid suburbanfucks weren't so caught up in the value of your
shitty houses (because you move every few years, I guess), this wouldn't
be a problem.

Buy a house to live in. If you make money on it? Swell. If you don't?
Who cares.

First of all, the only time that I have really talked about it is here
and a couple of times with my wife.

Second, if you don't want me to talk about you, don't park your car on
your lawn.

I donut live in the suburbs.

I live in a diverse, 1950s era neighborhood with two-story homes, small
ranches, rental units and a school. Oh, and one dude who parks his car
on his front lawn.

He has a driveway, a garage and a street.

I park in the street in the summer cause the kids have their bikes
taking up my winter spot.

Have all you people only lived in the suburbs or something? When I
lived in Seattle, this was not an option in some places. The people
living across the street from me had a 2 car driveway shared between
two houses. No garage for either house. And if you have 2 cars for 1
household, well, now you're parking somewhere else. I didn't live
downtown either, just in the city limits.

Cry me a river. That's rationalization and it's nonsense.

Any 1950s era neighborhood in this country is suburban. Sorry to burst
your bubble.

Unless you've got apartment buildings on the same block, or duplexes, or
garage apartments, or whatnot.

But in order to be suburban, don't I have to live outside of something
urban???

There are three duplexes on my street within two blocks of my home.

and to me that looks tacky......is it less tacky than a car in the
yard? Of course, but it's a degree of tackiness. Different people
have different "breaking points" for what crosses the line in terms of
neighborhood etiquette....for you it's a car in the yard, for me it's
bikes in the driveway, for him apparently neither crosses the line

He should park in his drivewar or garage though....do you think he
just has a bunch of junk in his garage that he refuses to clean out?

Now he's resorting to subliminal freudian slips.

Why don't you go introduce yourself to your new neighbor. Talking to
them might be a bit more productive than talking to Slick.

I've never lived in an area where people didn't have

Because you'll turn him in for violating
zoning laws and the town will write him up
a citation with a hefty fine if he doesn't get
his head out of his ass, perhaps?

Yep. Luckily, we have mechanisms in place to let local

This describes my neighborhood exactly. Well, except for the
