Cavcav: Special favors lead to match-fixing:

Gençlerbirlig(i Chairman I.lhan Cavcav said match-fixing was not
uncommon for players of opposing teams who reciprocate favors. He touched
upon the concept of "special bonus payments" among footballers to
determine the outcome of the game, which are encouraged by club officials.
Cavcav said he hoped such practices were coming to an end after new
measures were introduced by the Turkish Football Federation to curb
rigging. "I know for a fact that next season will see none of these
'special bonus payments' as the reigns have been tightened," added the
Gençlerbirlig(i chairman. Cavcav made his comments at the elite sports
gala organized by the Professional Football Association where several
figureheads including UEFA Vice-President S,enes Erzik, and Galatasaray
Chairman Özhan Canayd?n, were honored for their contribution to sport.

Deputy Prime Minister Mehmet Ali S,ahin seemed less optimistic about new
regulations as he addressed the audience at the gala. S,ahin said match-
fixing and hooliganism remained the two-headed monster of Turkish
football, despite the government's best efforts, as new legislation proved
ineffective, with violence and swearing continuing in the football stands.
He sent a plea to the Turkish Football Federation during his speech to
propose new measures that could be legislated. The deputy prime minister
also called for the establishment of a court for sports arbitration in
Turkey to get a handle on match-fixing. "Both FIFA and UEFA recommend the
setting up of special judicial bodies to prevent sports corruption. Right
now, our hands are tied in Turkey as Turkish Football Federation decisions
cannot be applied by way of law," stated S,ahin.

Turkey is being considered for membership in the EU. That's pretty
European.

They are trying to force their way into EU. The polls I=B4ve seen
indicate that the majority of Europeans don=B4t want them. Europe is not
only about geography - it=B4s about culture, religion and heritage as
well. L

What are you trying to say? Sweden is not part of NATO but they are
part of Europe. These two are not identical nor should they. L
